Hotel Riviera & Maximilians

Everything as described on the homepage, very nice. However, the footpath to Miramare has been closed for years until further notice!!!

The rooms in the renovated section are "okay" - well-maintained. The sea/beach access with nice lounge chairs and private area, beach cafe, "typical Italian flair," by the sea, friendly staff, especially the waiters and the breakfast staff, proximity to Castello Miramare, fantastic location, 10/15 min. to the city center. The exterior area, such as the outer facade, as well as the unrenovated part of the hotel (rooms) are already run-down and in need of renovation. Everything could be better maintained, and at a 4-star hotel in this price range, you simply expect more.. I personally would not recommend a room in the unrenovated part of the hotel, as it is simply not worth the money (we only had 1 nightstand, for example, and, for example: a newspaper article was taped over the wall picture with Scotch tape?!). Furthermore, the grout on the tile floor is damaged, etc. No complimentary water in the room. Unfortunately, the air conditioning cannot be controlled or turned off, and it always cools to an estimated 22 degrees, but the hallways and rooms are uncooled and stuffy! Worst breakfast I have ever experienced in a 4-star hotel!!!! (hardly any Italian items - no salami, prosciutto, Parmesan; only 2 types of cold cuts/1 type of cheese, 1 type of fruit and vegetable each). The cold cuts and cheese were already warm, above room temperature! Also no selection of rolls, everything is standard and frozen bake-off products. No decent juices, everything is artificial! You will look in vain for an orange juicer for freshly squeezed orange juice. The glasses by the juices were sometimes hot because they had just been washed. It wasn't even possible to get a cold glass upon request. The staff at the beach cafe is very slow and disorganized; you sometimes wait 15 minutes for your 1st. drink, even though business was not very busy.. Snacks such as, for example, fries were simply sold out for days. The prices for the lounge chairs in the "Beach Club" and in the cafe/bistro are also very excessive!! All in all, very disappointing! Due to the high price and the poor selection, only 2 stars.

On paper, everything seems magnificent. The customer experience, however, can be different. 1/ Do not, under any circumstances, accept a room numbered 300 on the -1 floor = very strong smells of humidity. Furthermore, the first single room assigned had sewer smells, impossible for the hotel to manage, which assigned a new room the next day with, in turn, flickering bathroom lights… repaired the day after next. 2/ Another room for a couple, on the level of the rooms numbered 500. 2nd floor. Floor without smells and with beautiful views. Note that the hotel accepts dogs (very good!), but does not manage guests who let their dogs howl day and night. It is therefore, according to the reception staff without consideration, up to each guest to manage these nuisances! No consideration and therefore obviously no commercial gesture, even symbolic. 3/ A part of the hotel beach (the most beautiful one) is paid for hotel guests (with a discount vs the public). A free space is accessible next to the trash cans. As for the umbrellas, a Sunday in full sun: it's a no, all day long, on the grounds that it was windy in the morning. No umbrellas except for the lifeguards. For them, the wind must avoid the umbrellas. Positive mention for the dining room and service staff, perfectly charming and very attentive to the customers.
