Porto di Claudio

There is something strange and slightly disturbing about the way that this hotel operates. It was booked for us by our travel operator (we probably won't be using them again either). When we arrived to check in, the desk was manned by a couple of young gentlemen who seemed somewhat puzzled about our being there. After a couple of furtive phone calls they informed us that we were going to be taken to another building, which turned out to be another hotel entirely. Without any explanation we were bungled into a car and transferred to a 3* hotel a few minutes drive away. The shower in the bathroom of this hotel was broken (to be fair they did attend to part of the problem), the room was small with few of the amenities purportedly offered by Porto di Claudio - no safe or minibar, and the breakfast left a lot to be desired - plain and uninspiring. And we were given no real explanation as to why we weren't staying in the hotel which had been booked for us. I'm also not clear why both hotels had to scan our passports!

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It’s beautiful and very clean. We were really happy with our room – it was lovely and clean too. We were very pleased that it had a balcony. Very good breakfast. And there is a lift a very good point. All the staff are very friendly and polite. If we return to Fiumicino, we’ll certainly be staying at this hotel again. There’s a supermarket less than 5 minutes away. The beach is a 15-minute walk away and ten minutes from Piazza Generale Dalle Chiesa, where we used the sitbusshuttle to visit the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica; for the Colosseum, we took the same route as for the Vatican and then caught the number 81 bus. Not only is the hotel well worth it, but on top of that, everything is within easy reach. Merci :)

I stayed at the Hotel Porto Claudio on April 26th and found myself very comfortable. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room and impeccable cleanliness. Also excellent shuttle service to Rome Fiumicino Airport, really convenient and efficient. The only small drawback: I could not use the private parking. Overall, very positive experience!
