B&B Cromata Rooms

The hotel is located 5 minutes away from Termini and maybe 5 from Vittorio Emanuelle metro station. At termini you can get, train for another city, metro for rome, tram and busses for Rome. It is not a typical hotel, as the owner gives you a key for the entrance of the building, a key for the entrance of the floor(3rd floor for Cromata Rooms) and a key for your room. When we got there, after we planned a free of charge early check-in, there was a misunderstanding and we had to wait for an hour outside the building. But that was not the hotel's 100% wrong as the flight was at first delayed and then arrived earlier than planned. It felt safe to wait at that neighbourhood, but at night SOMETIMES it can be a bit frightening(although we never felt REALLY threatened. When we got in the room, we realised that it was just like the pictures. It was modern and clean. Only negative was that the TV was not working(they told us that they will fix it but they did not), but we were in Rome, no need for TV. Also, there was no fridge but as soon as we asked for it we got it. It wasnt really good, but it kept the water a bit cold. The room was cleaned up every day and when we asked for clean towels, we got them. The breakfast was 3 mins walk away and it was a small bite with a small drink(kept us going for some hours). The last day, after check-out, we asked the hotel crew if we could leave our baggages there for some hours and they accepted. After all, it was a pleasant stay and one of the best "hotels" i have ever stayed.

Long story short, the hotel is relatively cheap, located very close both to Termini station and Piazza del Colosseo (walking distance, if you're up to it). The neighborhood itself is not the best but then again, when will you be there except for sleeping? It's very quiet there. Breakfast is complimentary coffee and pastry in a Caffe nearby. The owner Gianluca is very friendly, speaks very good English and is at your service via phone/Whatsapp all day long. The photos don't lie and we had a great time there. All in all, don't hesitate and just book a room.

I spent 2 nights at Cromata in May earlier this year. I was in Rome for a work meeting and I stayed a few extra days in Rome for sightseeing. Since the hotel where I was staying with work was a little out my price range to pay out of pocket for my extra few days in the city, I was looking for a cheaper place to stay on my own. Cromata was pretty average. For what I paid (during the beginning of tourist season) I think it was pretty decent (90 Euros). It's definitely nothing spectacular but for my budget it was fine. As most reviewers already pointed out, it's not a standard hotel so be prepared to wait for the owner to arrive to let you in. Luckily when I was moving from my hotel to Cromata, there was a sweet, older man who lives in the building that let me in and helped me with my bag. I had emailed with the owner to let them know what time I would arrive and she still wasn't there on time. I waited about 45 minutes in the stairwell until she arrived. Thankfully I didn't have to wait outside the building which is slightly dodgy. It's an OK part of the city -- really close to the train tracks near Termini Station. As a solo female traveller I was a little more cautious of the neighborhood but generally felt fine. When I arrived my room still wasn't ready so the owner gave me a map, quick introduction to the building and local area and had to leave my bag in the "office" as I went off to explore beautiful Roma. I wasn't sure if the office would be locked so I felt a bit uneasy as I left my work laptop in there. However, all was accounted for when I returned. The owner gave me my room keys and meal vouchers but told me to come back later that afternoon after 1 pm once the cleaning lady had a chance to change the sheets and clean my room. When I came back later that afternoon and went into my room - the previous occupant's luggage was still in there so I just moved it into the office which was unlocked. Slightly awkward but I wanted to take a bit of a rest and didn't want any disruptions. Also, the free wifi signal wasn't the strongest and the connection in my room wasn't the greatest, and it would go in/out during the day so be aware of that in case you need consistent internet connectivity. As far as the room itself, it was generally nice, spacious with a nice little window view. About the free breakfast vouchers, you have a walk a few blocks to get to the cafe. It was a quaint little place, nice enough owner, okay food. For a free coffee and breakfast sandwich/pastry it was just fine. In summary, if you're a stickler for timeliness and organization, you might want to find something else and be prepared to pay more. Not sure I'd stay here again as I'd probably pay out a little more next time for something more "traditional" hotel-wise.
