Our stay at the Colosseum Residence was a mixed bag. The location was great for getting to the colosseum and not far from public transport. The facilities themselves were clean and well kept. However lack in communication was a problem. We were told the late check in fee would be waved due to the length of our stay by the man we had been speaking with, Luca. When we turned up we were greeted by two young girls who told us we would need to pay this fee and if we could pay the amount by cash it would be better. I told them it would be better for them to just use the card details we had provided them with. We were out and about for most of the holiday as you can imagine. On the last day my wife had looked out an outfit to wear out that night earlier that morning and placed it inside our suitcase on top of the other items inside before we left. When we returned from the day to get cleaned and changed the pair of shorts she planned to wear were nowhere to be found. We searched our bag multiple times and under the bed and such in case we had miss placed it but it was completely. We messaged Luca about it as we had no idea how this could have happened since the shorts were in our bag when we left for the day. Luca suggested we have another look and we did multiple times. Eventually we had to just give up and go out for dinner but my wife was very upset and it really put a damper on the rest of the night. Luca told us he would be there in the morning before we left to help resolve this and have another look. He never showed up and we had to leave and get our taxi to the airport. Not long after we arrived home we got a message from Luca saying he or his wife had found the shorts under the bed, under a box that was under there. I had searched this place and not only was it not there when I looked but I see no physical way as to how even if they had slid under the small gap under the bed they would have continued sliding and ended up under a box. Seems impossible to me. Luca told us he would send back the shorts by post as well as a refund for the mistake of the late check in fee being charged. I have chased him multiple times for proof of postage on this or some sort of tracking number and have yet to have any response about that. In my opinion a member of staff removed the shorts from the suitcase. Also the customer service was terrible. It was a shame this experience left us with bad feelings about the whole thing as the room was nice enough and the locale was great for getting to the colosseum and getting to other sightseeing areas. Also I went to post this review on booking .com only to find out you cant post a review after 28 days. I now feel as if Luca has been stringing us along and delaying us from posting the review as he must have known this info.

My partner and I stayed here at the beginning of August. Great room - equipped with all you need for a city break, cleaned daily, lovely bathroom, perfect location for the Colosseum, only trouble is that we waited to be checked in only to be told we needed to check in at another site, and unfortunately a language barrier caused some confusion on arrival but, once checked in we were off to do as we pleased :) all in all lovely little break with plenty to see and a clean and comfortable room to come back to that did t break the bank! 😄

The hotel itself is a great location, about a 90 second walk gives you a view of the Colosseum, which, lets face it, everyone is here to see. The location is however quiet as its on the 'non tourist side' of the monument. There are some local places to eat and drink but it is still quiet enough and relaxing. The room seems new and modern with a modern bathroom. Space wise it has more than enough with a nice room we could hang some laundry out of as well. A few issues though- I emailed in advance of our arrival time, and we arrived spot on. There is no sign on the 'buzzer' of Colosseum residence, so it left us a bit confused. We asked the restaurant, who said ''they'll be here in 5 minutes'' (how he knew I have no idea). We then had a man enter the building try to help us, but the language barrier made that difficult. He was willing to let us in, but we didn't know where to go! Eventually (after waiting about 30 minutes) a lady came down and helped, this was after another (random) man came to talk to us, again with a language barrier and confusion. She then seemed to start taking us somewhere, so we followed (by this stage the whole operation seemed a bit odd, even dodgy). We eventually ran in to 'Karim' who was the person who eventually checked us in. He took us one way and the 2 ladies took our baggage another way, which at the time was a bit strange as we were already a bit off put by the process. We went to another building to check in, which finally looked a bit more formal. All we had to do was pay local taxes, then walk all the way back, eventually being shown our room about an hour after arriving. We only got the train from Florence, but a long flight in and this hour would have killed us. He was friendly, though his suggestion for food at the local restaurant was not overly amazing. He said they cooked like his Mum which got us excited, but all we do now is judge how his mum cooks as it did not stack up against authentic Italian places we had visited. The room needs a better fridge, the one we had hardly kept it warm even when we found the setting on the back of the unit. There could probably also be a spot for a kettle, if not in the room but in the hallway.
