Hotel Golden

Very quaint hotel run by nice family. Good location. Some walking uphill to return from the heart of Rome. Good price too. Very secure. We were impressed with the steps taken to ensure guests were safe at all times. Room was clean and spacious.

Top notch customer service. Clean, quiet, spacious rooms. Very nice area. Easy to catch a cab or approximately 10 minute walk to the metro. Variety of coffee shops and restaurants close by. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have ever had. The main issue was the significant difference between the amenities advertised on the hotel’s website and Tripadvisor and what was actually available. Several amenities listed in the advertising were not provided, including: * Complimentary breakfast * Bathrobes and slippers * Iron and ironing board * Telephone * Minibar * Drinking water in the room or lobby * Courtesy kit * Laundry service The complimentary breakfast advertised on the website and Tripadvisor simply does not exist. When we asked about it, the staff refused to provide a clear explanation and referred to COVID as the reason. There were also several other inconveniences. If you have several suitcases, be prepared to carry them yourself or make multiple trips in the very small elevator. There is also a second floor that may require carrying luggage up the stairs. The hotel’s nighttime access procedure was also unusual. When leaving the hotel at night, guests are required to ring the bell, and when leaving the room, you have to hand in your key, only to collect it again when you return. We also noticed that the air conditioning is turned off when guests are not in the room. Other issues included: * The heated towel rail can apparently only be used during the winter. * The hairdryer looks extremely outdated, although a newer one can be requested. * There is no handheld shower. * Shower amenities are provided in small packets rather than bottles. * The refrigerator was completely empty. * We were not allowed to use the safe. We were told that there was only one key and that we might break it. This was difficult to understand and left us feeling that there was very little trust between the hotel and its guests. * The mattress was quite hard and the pillows were very flat. Overall, the experience was not what we expected from the hotel’s online presentation. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of flexibility and the feeling that guests were not being treated with the level of consideration one would normally expect from a hotel. I was therefore surprised to see so many positive reviews. Perhaps some guests have had a different experience, but based on our stay, I would recommend carefully checking which amenities are actually available before booking. Unfortunately, we would not choose to stay here again.
