Kimama B&B

There were eight of us - grandparents (us), our son, his wife and our two granddaughters (12 & 16), our daughter-in-laws sister & her 9 year old son, therefore we had booked a self catering apartment. This consisted of two bedrooms with a double bed in, each with its own ensuite, and one with a double bed and two sofa beds, which could be used as a lounge for a smaller group, or as for us, a bedroom for 4 people. A further large bathroom was off the kitchen area. The kitchen had a large wooden table with bench seats on each side, and it also had a further sofa in it. It was well appointed except it did not have a microwave - we did not realise this when we booked, but everything else we needed was there. The location is excellent with bus stops and many restaurants just a few minutes walk away. The first night we ate pizza and/or pasta locally at around 10.30 pm - it had been 9.30 by the time we turned up at the apartment by a people mover from the airport. Arriving at that time of night we did not realise that the bedroom windows have shutters on them to keep the light out; this meant that we had street lights shinning onto our bed all night as there are pretty but flimsy curtains - so make sure you close these. The air-conditioner in our room made a very loud noise each time it leapt into life but my husband was able to put a wedge under it which eliminated the noise. The lighting is so subdued that it is difficult to read in bed - this is so with a lot of accommodation though, they seem to go for ambience rather than practicality. On the positive side the room is big, the bed is big and comfortable, there is a wardrobe with heaps of hangers, drawers to put clothes in and good sized bedside tables with touch lamps. There is plenty of hot water in the shower, definitely a plus at the end of the day. We loved the pretty courtyard that you access the apartment from.

A really nice b&b with the best location in Rome. Good restaurants around and good service from the hosts. We loved it! Walking distance to all the things worth seeking in the city. Good coffe in the room to get a good start of the day.

We spent six nights at Kimama in early May and couldn't have been happier with the choice. The location right on the edge of historical Trastevere is fantastic, with many restaurants, cafes, and shops just a few minutes' walk away. Central Rome and the Vatican are also walking distance, so we found we hardly needed to use any other kind of transport. Kimama itself is tastefully and thoughtfully outfitted, and the owner Raffaella is extremely friendly and helpful. We were booked into the double room facing the courtyard, which was comfy and quiet if a little snug, but when an unexpected construction project started in the building opposite, Raffaella did not hesitate to move us to one of the other rooms. This ended up being a spacious one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. Wow, we will definitely opt for this directly next time! All in all, a wonderful stay which we hope to repeat soon. Also very easy to reach from the airport via Stazione Trastevere and the number 8 tram - though be careful on the latter, we had a close call with a gang of pickpockets who seem to be on the lookout for distracted tourists juggling luggage...
