We just came home from Rome, staying at the Hotel Morgana. My thoughts on this hotel are not bad but they're not great either. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is nice, clean, but it wasn't a great hotel. First the good. Like I said, the room was clean. We had a nice view overseeing the front street. The rooms on the inner side of the hotel have a horrible view. The breakfast buffet was also fine, not great. Now for the bad. The hotel is very small, outdated, and is in a very BAD part of town. How small? Well you ever get on an elevator and see the sign that says capacity is like 25 or 30 people. This hotel had an elevator with a capacity of THREE. My wife and I got on with our two suitcases and there wasn't any more room. I'm talking small. The hotel buffet was ok but the eggs tasted like fish. Not sure if that's a European thing or not but I tasted like they cooked salmon just before scrambling the eggs. They also had hotdogs and chicken wings on the BREAKFAST buffet. And the location was terrible. There was a homeless campsite 1/2 block up the street and we witnessed two fist fights right in front of the hotel. The smell of urine hit you immediately upon leaving the hotel. And the hotel kept their main door locked at all times. You had to be buzzed in every time. But the staff were very nice, polite, and helpful. So my bottom line on the Hotel Morgana is.......nice hotel, very bad location. Would I stay here again? Definitely not.

This was by far one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have had in our many years of traveling. The location felt unsafe and was nothing like what we expected from a hotel claiming to be in the 4- or 5-star category. The surrounding area was covered in graffiti and frequented by questionable characters, making us uncomfortable every time we left or returned to the hotel. The hotel itself is extremely dated and in need of significant renovation. Our room overlooked a dirty, rundown courtyard that was anything but relaxing. Every morning, we were awakened by the constant noise of kitchen staff banging pots, pans, and dishes while preparing breakfast. What made the experience even worse was the attitude of the front desk staff. They were consistently rude, cold, and unfriendly. During our entire stay, we never felt welcomed. I have never stayed at a hotel where guests are not greeted with a simple smile or even a basic "hello." The breakfast was mediocre at best, with very limited choices and nothing memorable. Overall, the atmosphere lacked warmth, hospitality, and the quality one would expect from a higher-rated property. We spent three days in Rome, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, yet I literally could not wait to leave this hotel. Based on our experience, this property is nowhere near a 4- or 5-star standard. At best, I would rate it a 2-star hotel. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it to other travelers.

I enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is located near Roma Termini (the main train station), and is an easy walk from there. This area can be a bit seedy at night, but the hotel itself seemed very safe, with attentive, 24-hour front desk staff. Easy access to public transportation is a major benefit of this hotel. The staff all spoke English well (helpful for this American traveler). My room was small, but clean, comfortable, and functional. Breakfast was not included with my room, but was reasonably priced, and the buffet offered some good choices. Service at breakfast was very good.
