Prince of Via Veneto

This hotel is located centrally, but is not via Veneto . The place is small and dirty, but after staying in a range of lower cost hotels in Rome, i realised that hotels are in fact dirty, buildings are old and overall standards are low. So this hotel is not different. 3 stars hotels in Rome are more like 1 star anywhere else.

Upon our decision to go to Rome as a couple for a Birthday present and quick getaway we started looking at 3* hotels via Thomas Cook website. Middle ish price around 350 for 3 nights. Prince via of veneto had a nice description and pictures over looking the street below and claimed rooftop views as it was situated on the top floor. Stated on the Web as a Hotel, we thought we would give it a shot. Breakfast was included in the price and described as an Italian style. When in Rome! And all that. We arrived and we're met with scaffolding all over the building (no mention when booking) and a post-it note with telephone number to call to check in stuck to the sign. We called and were let in the building. Then as the elevator didn't work (not surprising as it was centuries old) we hiked up 5 flights to be met by and apartment door with a piece of A4 paper stuck to it with the name. We should of turned round then but took a chance. The man we spoke to was very friendly and we could see he was trying to impress given the looks on our faces I guess. The lobby which you can't really call it that was a 3 meter wide space with a tiny desk crammed in. An extremely short L shaped corridor you could walk in 5 steps with 4 doors to the only 4 rooms of the "hotel" followed(not 11 rooms as stated on web) . He showed us our room. A box with a bed in it is a kind explanation. Awful decor. Small bathroom attached in which my partner (he's a plumber) confirmed the toilet didn't flush properly. Clean bedding and tidy looking is all that can be said as we were told it wasn't ready for us. It looked like they could do no more though. So we were then told about breakfast... He gave us three post-it notes with a scribble on them and said breakfast was a pastry and a coffee from the deli next door. I wouldn't even expect this from a B&B let alone a place advertised as a hotel!!! Being first time in Rome this is not what we expected.. but we'd paid.. This is the point I burst into tears. How could we have paid this much for a place like this! We decided to go for a walk in our surroundings to clear our heads. That brought the bigger picture. We passed plenty of hotels (with actual lobbies and doors you could open without having to call from outside to check in) and decided we couldn't stay there under any circumstances. God only knows what else we may have encountered if we had!! So to sum up.. Awful place, basically an apartment that had been turned into a rent a room hostel, nonexistent breakfast, no views of any sort except brick walls. Wifi stated as free- unsure if so. Apparent terrece available for supposed rooftop views was nonexistent. Not in the centre of the city per say more ourskirts and off the beaten track (our taxi driver was confused as to where it was!). Cleanliness can only be described as clean to the eye as that's all we could bare. Oh and once you are given the keys everything is down to you. You.let yourself in and out of the whole building. To expand on this when we returned to cancel our room no one was there. We rang the check in number - no answer. We waited a while and decided any more time spent there would ruin our holiday even more. We left a note and keys on the desk. This is a big con. A money making scheme at its worst. Description and photos are anything but what you will see if you came here. We were so upset and angry to have been sold this by a trusted holiday Company. They also will be getting a severe letter regarding this place. Only positive... The man we spoke to was very kind and offered us iced bottled water and a map and explanation of the city with routes, attractions etcetera. TAKE MY ADVICE if you want a above decent trip to the eternal city DO NOT STAY HERE. If you are literally looking for a room.. I still wouldn't advise staying here as its not worth even half of what you pay. We were extremely lucky that we had enough funds to be able to go elsewhere as I know others may not be as lucky. We went on to book and stay for 3 nights at the Euro star International Palace Hotel. €600.approx. 4* with continental breakfast and an actual lobby and excellent service. Located on Via Nationalez. We recommend this Hotel to all types of stays in Rome!! HOPE THIS HELPS GUYS :)

This hotel is terrible. There is nothing compared with what they promise on the Internet. The "double bed" is in fact two single beds put together with a very small mastress. The room is really small and the walls are disgusting. The bathroom is terrible as well. The door doesn't close (not very romantic to go to the toilets just on front of the bed without any separation). And it really smells bad (probably the pipes). So we ask if it was possible to do anything against that: they just put some perfume. And they don't speak English, or maybe jus pretend not to ? On top of that, the hotel is quite far away from the city centre of Rome. So really ... Don't stay there.
