Bed & Breakfast Domitilla

when we arrived and met Pietro the owner outside this magnificent 1908 built Mirimare Hotel turned into apartments. Sweeping staircases Columns and 30ft arched ceilings. Access to a boutique garden with great views of the port. elephant in the room ( no pun intended) 2 things are glaringly omitted from some of the reviews I've read, is that 1. the apartment is directly above the Piazza Principe Genoa train station with trains rumbling through every 3-5 min. Don't believe me look at a map. 2 the other elephant is the fact that the apartment has two decent size bedromms but no place to sit comfortably. When Pietro showed us into the apartment he opened the door to a short corridor facing Bedroom 1 smaller with ensuite and shower over bath.You then a left turn toward second bedroom and Kitchen, my mind doing a double take where is the lounge. Pietro says sit on bed or the table with the wooden chairs?? ah so no comfort! and to watch the (italian no english) TV you need binoculars from the bed. There is another bathroom with Shower cubicle, Balcony has a view of the station directly ahead and to the right a bit of a view of the port, nice to have breaky on or a Cianti in the evening listening to the hustle and bustle and the Swallows. Kitchen is long and has mostly everything you need to stay including dining table, and the added bonus of a Mercato (supermarket) directly under the building.. Just a word on smell and sensitivity here, if your renting to the general public i would not recommend the washing powder used in this Apartment, it stank terribly, not in a bad smell just in the fact that certain people are sensitive to strong chemical smells and this made my wife quite ill. I even tried to wash the bed linen in the bath ( no washing machine available, photos avail on request:) but couldn't get the stench out. Consequently we moved to another hotel after only 1 night of our 5 night stay. 5 star and highly recommended within 5 min walk, can't mention the name but look around the other end of the station you'll find it...See my review of that place. Another thing that irked me and my wife was the fact that although Pietro assured us the carpark was secure our car was significantly scratched costing us euro500 in excess fees. Pietro assured us that he would review video and catch the culprit. This was after telling us the apartments public liability insurance didn't cover "vandalism". To date I have not heard a thing from him since,so we are not to keen on recommending this apartment either for comfort, safety or sensitivity. Reading another review here made me thank the gods for not having any couple staying in the same apartment especially if you thought you were booking Solo...

Clean two bed unit with breakfast . Next to train and bus service and easy walking distance to town. The downside was the second bedroom was rented at the same time which was a bit awkward. Each room has it's own bathroom and a curtain in the hall for privacy. There was a mix up with our arrival and we were unable to enter until the owner arrived some 30 mins later.Okay for an overnight stay.

Close to train station but up hill, about 5 minutes walk. Building and rooms have good views. Larger room, good mattress, good continental breakfastf, your own bathroom with larger size walk in shower but in common area. WiFi good, no english TV, Cienza and Pietro are friendly and accommodating. Restaurant recommended Soho was good quality. 15 min walk from B&B.
