Excelsior Palace Hotel

Beautiful location and view, courteous and professional service, excellent bar and restaurant. The room was nice even though the bathroom shows some signs of wear. Stunning antique pieces preserved throughout the hotel. An experience definitely worth repeating.

We stayed here for one night, also using the well-maintained and modern spa, the room was clean and had everything available, and the breakfast was top-notch with plenty of choices.

Without a doubt, a lovely address in an old palazzo on the Ligurian coast. Located on the heights at the exit of Rapallo and facing the sea, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the center of Rapallo, and keep in mind that on the way back, the last 100 meters go up a lot! Access from the train station is not recommended on foot, and we took a rideshare and then a taxi on the way back, at exorbitant rates (+21 € for just 1 km!!!!). The view of the bay is truly wonderful. The coastal road that runs at the bottom of the hotel is absolutely hellish (even in May, which is off-season) and does not allow for pleasant walking due to the incessant traffic. The interior is charming with many antique objects (paintings, furniture, sedan chairs, ...) and makes the establishment resemble a museum. However, the decor shows its age and could use a refresh; The gym is fantastic, but we regretted the disrespectful behavior of some clients who left it messy and dirty after their visit. Yes, this also exists in a 5-star hotel! A check would be quite useful during the day. The outdoor pool is heated and really very pleasant, and the surrounding area has a large number of lounge chairs, so it does not feel crowded even when it is busy. The breakfast is good but offers a rather limited choice, and the selection and quality of the dishes are somewhat below what one might expect from an establishment of this standing. The dining room is beautiful and offers a lovely view. We were upgraded to a beautiful room with a very large terrace offering a stunning panorama of Rapallo. The room was modest in size but comfortable, with very decent amenities. This hotel is undoubtedly very pleasant and full of charm, but it does not really meet international luxury standards. The rates seemed a bit high given this criterion.
