Hotel City

The best hotel I've ever stayed in. Reception staff are the best, Marco stephen, Tomaso Giuseppe. Breakfast is perfect and plenty to choose from. The wee bar is lovely and outdoor seating area. We are here now and honestly couldn't have picked a nicer hotel. 1 minute walk to old town and ferry. Thankyou everyone for a wonderful stay the staff are all so friendly x

This hotel is approx 7 mins (downhill) from the train station. Very warm welcome when the 4 of us arrived and our room was ready, despite us arriving early. Double bed for the 2 of us and 2 single beds for the kids (21 & 19) the layout of the room was great, a dividing wall between the beds. Great bathroom. Very close the the lake. Excellent breakfast included with lots of different selections of food. We really enjoyed the bar on the evening. All of the staff were fantastic and went the extra mile every day. Very safe area.

Taking a longer trip in the summer, we chose Hotel City because of its location and rooms allegedly having air conditioning for one short leg. Things went bad shortly after arriving, and they got worse after departure. This is a longer tale, but please read it through. At the time of writing, I have not yet initiated a formal refund process and frankly I do not expect much to come out of it, so this is simply a friendly warning. Upon arrival at the hotel, we noticed the air conditioning did not work. It did run, and after a while of waiting and trying to use the controls, it was clear it only pushed air around but did not cool it. We reported this to the reception in the early evening, and they said they would check it the next day. Not ideal, but we accepted this. We had a bad night because the very warm room, but we were hopeful the AC would get repaired by the staff during the day. The next day we went about our business and when coming back, nothing was done to the air conditioning. When asking about it from the reception, they said that the hotel could not do anything, and we should have asked about it in the morning. Why, though, since the promise was to check it during the day? The hotel offered absolutely nothing as a solution. Even a table fan could have helped, but all we got was bad attitude and trying to shift the blame on us with a childish excuse. The next morning, after yet another miserable night, we went to have breakfast at 9:15. The breakfast was supposed to last until 10:00, but virtually all the fresh items were gone already. We waited for a bit for refills, but they did not take place and finally asked the staff members who was collecting dishes and was packing things up. Their reply was that they were all alone and could not do anything about the situation. I took the photos visible in this review of the empty containers around 9:40. When checking out, we informed the reception that we did not get breakfast. They asked what time we went there and we told them 9:15 and he tried to say 9:50, but we corrected him directly and plainly, nine-one-five. They said it was strange and they would check it. At that point I had had enough of these “checks” and we went away. Unsurprisingly, I wrote a review on the site we used for reserving the room and it was not one with praise. Since they did not play nice, neither did I and I also mentioned that their warm foods were cold the morning we did get breakfast. Normally I would have overlooked this, even though it can be a food safety issue. The hotel management challenged everything we said and flat out lied about what happened. They also blamed us for trying to get a free night and that we did not have “a direct and constructive conversation at the Reception desk,” when we did, three in total. Additionally, they claimed we went to have breakfast at 9:50 and could have had refills if we only had asked. I had a bad feeling about the hotel, so I documented things. I have video and photos and there are two of us who were there. Also, I happen to have a recording of the conversation at the reception desk where we told we did not get breakfast. Nine fifteen, with absolute certainty. I have proof of what I say, all they have is fabrications. If you are not fond of extraordinarily bad service or you being called a liar, and you value honesty, do yourself a favour and choose another hotel. Yes, this is my first review on this site but I think you can appreciate why I created an account.
