Hotel San Giorgio

This was a very nice hotel and the food was the best we had on our Shearings Classical Italy tour. Hotels and food went downhill from here onwards. The swimming pool was great and very pleasant to sit around with nice scenery as a background drop.

We couldn't book our previous hotel that we had stayed in 5 years ago Hotel Lucia which was first class in Tremosine, so we booked last minute at San Giorgio. The rooms were very basic and clean sheets and towels every day if needed. Unfortunately we went half board and the food was terrible! The breakfasts were the same every day, continental, cereals and fruit salads but only served boiled eggs every day!!! The evening buffet was a selection of barely warm pasta dishes, chicken, fish or meat but all vegetables were served cold on platters on the main table. There wasn't a lot of choice of drink probably to do with the fact that it was the end of the season, and you could tell that! It was mostly catered for the Germans including the TV channels. There was no kind of entertainment of any kind! The staff were lovely especially Federico from Bologna. I would not return to this hotel.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was a tad worried after already having booked this hotel through love holidays. But actually we were really pleasantly surprised. I was worried that there wasn't a lot of reviews for this hotel but I think that's because a lot of the customers are Germans, but that didn't bother us they were all really friendly. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view of the lake. The room and bathroom were both a fine size and it was kept clean each day and we were given new towels more often than we needed them which was good. We had hot water everytime we needed it apart from on the last day at 5am, but then in my house you probably wouldn't have hot water at 5am so that didn't really bother us. The continental breakfast was perfectly adequate with crusty bread and rolls, cold meats and cheese, cereals, fruit juices, fruits, yogurt and pastries. The evening meal again was nice, six hot dishes which changed each night, and a wide selection of roasted vegetables and salads, it was traditional Italian food. What we did especially like about the food was that everything was topped up all of the time, even towards the end of service. The staff were all very friendly and come round to the pool to ask if you want a drink or ice cream. Limone is just down the road and is a lovely town with a nice beach and the beach directly under the hotel (just under the road and down the hill) has a really nice bar. I would visit this hotel again as we had a lovely time.
