Grand Hotel Menaggio

Far Below What You Would Expect from a 4-Star Hotel Unfortunately, our experience at the Grand Hotel Menaggio was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the level of service was simply not up to standard. The welcome at reception was cold and unprofessional, the check-in process was unnecessarily complicated and unfriendly, and the overall handling of our arrival was poor. Some members of the reception staff would not even bother to say hello. More generally, the staff seem to be seriously lacking in training and proper supervision. At breakfast, the service was reduced to the bare minimum, and even getting a simple coffee could take far too long. The rooms are dated and clearly in need of substantial renovation. There was not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. The shutters and curtains do not properly block out the light, meaning we were woken up by daylight every morning. The bathroom was probably the worst part. The shower was extremely outdated, with signs of mould on the walls, a very basic shower head, almost no water pressure, and a shower system that simply did not work properly. The toiletries provided were also surprisingly low quality for a hotel claiming to be four-star. The food was disappointing as well, and we found the restaurant mediocre. We also did not find the hotel particularly welcoming towards pets. Beyond the ageing facilities, the main problem is the overall standard of service. This hotel needs not only a major renovation, but also a complete review of staff training, management and service standards from the parking and luggage service to reception and breakfast. We stayed here because the other hotels we wanted were fully booked. If you have a choice, I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere. In our opinion, the Grand Hotel Menaggio simply does not currently provide the facilities, service or overall experience one should reasonably expect from a 4-star hotel.

Great location just next to ferry, but when lying on sundeck not so great with a bunch of people looking. We were only there for 1 night, but enjoyed our stay. The reason for only giving it 3 is both due to the check-in process in the reception by the lady to the right in reception. Also she was extremely slow and not very accomodating. No smile from her or welcome at all. I would assume that should be included in the very high price that we paid for this night. Same experience when checking out. You feel so unwelcome ! Rooms are also outdated. Bathroom ok but interior furniture is not great as it looks so old and worned out (I mean who has a white leather couch in room!). Also I did book a comfort room for 3 adults, where picture shows the double bed and then an extra regular bed, but when arriving we got an old roll-away where you could feel the metal. Husband had a not so great night on this bed. Other not so great thing was this musician playing keyboard and singing on the terraze deck on the night. He was really not that great and ruined the nice evening outside. Breakfast was amazing though and the staff there were very attentive. Don´t know the deal with the 1 waiter walking around with his board in the hand being in the way for the other waiters (he didn´t clean table or anything - just looking important with the board :-) It is a shame that rooms interior is so much different than the common area. They are really nice and updated. So you just feel bummed getting to your room.

The hotel is on a wonderful location, right in front of Como Lake, it’s imponent on a beautiful building. The swimming pool is really nice, the garden very pleasant! The decor, though, lacks the elegance expected for a property with such a potential. I would definitely stay here again! It’s a 4 star hotel with a 5 star location and view!
