Hotel Medea

I have stayed in cheap hostels before, and certainly don't expect luxury when travelling on a budget. However, hotel Medea fails to reach the basic standards of hygiene and service. Main complaint is the stench of stale cigarette smoke throughout the hotel; both members of staff were heavy smokers and smoked in the main reception area which then spread to our room and the bedding had the smell of stale smoke. Had to sleep with the balcony door open for the smell to be tolerable. Don't use the lift to get up as it is ancient and its only a matter of time before it crashes to the ground. The room was cramped and tiny and although I booked a double room the bed was only slightly larger than a single bed and felt very cramped between me and my partner. We paid 46 euros for 1 night in a double room with a private bathroom (including city tax) which, although cheap for Milan, is grossly overpriced for the quality of the room and location. On a positive note the first member of staff was friendly, helpful and spoke good English. Also about a 30 min walk to Milan central train station and 40 min walk into the city centre to the cathedral. Recommend walking to Flower Burger restaurant which does amazing and affordable food and is a 20 min walk away from the hostel with good bars nearby too.

I stayed in a four room shared space. The staff are accommodating. The ride from the metro in a taxi was12 Euro. It has good facilities - the supermarket is open 24hrs 3 min walk. Good wifi. I'd stay here again, it was clean and good for the budget. Grazi tante Hotel Medea.

We were booked into a 4 bed girls dorm but when we got there it was six girls beds squished into a room. There was no air conditioning - this cost and extra €5. The room was hot but did have a large window. There were only 4 plugs between the 6 beds which proved a slight issue. The bathroom was fairly clean, it was ensuite to the bedroom however the toilet was right by the flimsy and difficult door, with a bed directly the other side! Not very private...the bathroom was also very cramped and with no ventilation. The reception staff were very friendly, especially the manager who spoke the best English. There is a vending machine, fridge, dining area and a microwave. There is a hilarious lift up and down the stairs that we only braved with our suitcases! Otherwise we used the stairs... The walk to the cathedral takes about 40 minutes - we walked it but the other girls took the bus. Cheap and fairly clean and pleasant, in a safe area of the city.
