Hotel Palio

Very central location. Welcoming and professional service. Breakfast on the borderline between 3 and 4 stars. Room standard, although double curtains are missing, so you are either in the dark or without privacy.

The Phi Hotel Palio is centrally located in Asti. With a few steps you can reach the Piazza Alfieri, the central square. Our room was relatively large – but unfortunately equipped with carpeting, actually untypical for Italy. Power outlets were in short supply. There was a coffee maker, but we searched in vain for the power outlet for it. The room faced the backyard and was absolutely quiet. Since the outside temperature was 34 °C during the day, it was nice to have air conditioning in the room, unfortunately it did not cool lower than 26 °C. The bathroom was renovated and pleasantly large, unfortunately there were no hooks or bars for storing toiletry bags or towels. The breakfast was very Italian but sufficient. The facilities in the breakfast room, on the other hand, were extremely cramped and the plexiglass chairs were extremely uncomfortable. The only coffee machine was a bottleneck. Relaxed breakfasts look different. We were there with a tour group, which also included dinner. The three- or four-course menus consisted partly of typical Piedmontese dishes and were very good in terms of taste. The wines offered with them, however, were expensive and at least not to my taste. A closed beer can was served as beer for 5 euros – that was quite extreme. Since the same facilities were used for breakfast and dinner, the cramped conditions were present here as well.

We were here for one night for the music festival. The hotel was ideally located for us. Only a short walk from the train station and close to where the festival was being held. The rooms may look a little old fashioned but they are a good sized rooms, plenty of storage space and the bed was very comfortable. No noise from outside. Mini fridge available.
