Hotel Residence Empedocle

According to other reviews, we evidently had one of the best rooms as we had no problems. Our room was quiet and very spacious. The Air conditioning worked well and the bathroom was very nice. The breakfast was very ample. The hotel was a bit of a walk from the harbor, but Messina is a very big. One really nice thing was the hotel does have parking and this was very welcome as finding parking is otherwise very difficult.

The lady who was sitting at reception could not speak English, hence it was pretty difficult to agree about our request. The single rooms are very small. You feel uncomfortable in there. Because of this feeling, I changed my single room with double one. So I paid more. No breakfast. No service. It is the place only to sleep, if you can...

Not an hotel as such the Empedocle was one of these no frills, minimum staff look after yourself sort of places. Room was stark, though with interesting ceiling paintings. Breakfast was low budget and very DIY. Added nothing to our trip, other than a place to stay in Messina.
