Hotel La Tavernetta

Wow - just incredible! A gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of beautiful Scopollo - without doubt one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The location is amazing, with stunning views and the pretty village just steps away. The staff - from the friendly receptionists to restaurant staff and cleaners - were helpful and happy. The food was fantastic - gorgeous breakfasts with pastries, a range of hot food (including proper bacon!) and freshly squeezed orange juice, and we also had fresh fish in the restaurant on our first night, which was beautifully cooked. The hotel grounds are stunning - once you go through the hotel it opens up towards the sea, with the landscaped gardens stretching out towards the pool and sea beyond. It’s breathtaking! The hotel was almost full when we stayed but the pool was always quiet with plenty of sun loungers. We booked last minute so couldn’t get a sea view room but our superior room on the ground floor had a gorgeous private terrace that looked straight out to the sea. Our only very small negative was lunch in the Belle Vue restaurant, which is below the pool and serves as the pool bar as well as a second restaurant. The food was lovely, with the biggest caprese salad I’ve ever eaten, but the service was slow and the large team of waiters seemed to spend more time shouting to each other than serving the customers. We put it down to bad timing (it was a late lunch and they were getting ready for the evening) but it put us off going back to eat there. However, it was a tiny blip on an otherwise perfect stay. Restaurant with high-quality raw materials, from the fish, exceptional tuna, and octopus to the raw meat. The owner is very nice and professional. Excellent desserts, attentive and fast staff. A must-try, the stuffed eggplant and the caponata are also excellent.
