Hotel Sole Castello

Very high uphill, drive carefully on the narrow and winding road. Rooms are rather simple but comfortable, the shower is too tiny. The huge terrace and the fantastic view of the bay and Etna more than compensates for all these. We had probably the best food in Sicily here while watching the unsurpassable scenery. A bus stop is right there at the hotel and the bus takes you to the heart of the town in a few minutes. Funny experience. The sea and Isola Bella is not easy to reach, but a great swimming pool is available. Parking is free on the crowded street, parking place is provided by the hotel for €10 a day.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. The roads leading to the hotel are very narrow and winding. There are no rules on the roads here. That aside the hotel was clean and staff were friendly . Rooms were basic, also a little scruffy. We had stains on our headboard. Views on a clear day are amazing. Breakfast was not too bad. Hams, boiled eggs and fruit, cakes. Pool area was nice, and pool looked clean. Parking is a bit of an issue, we parked behind the hotel on the road side. You have to squeeze as close to the wall as possible. As road is narrow. Staff were lovely and very helpful.

We came there just to have a drink while waiting for a close by restaurant that was closed for another hour. Although clearly not potential hotel guests, we were treated like royals: drinks served quickly, small snacks on the house and reception and waitress very friendly. Next time visit, we'll consider to book our rooms at this hotel.
