Lido Mediterranee

We have just loved our time here. The whole place is kinda retro but spotless and also interesting. There are ficus trees that form a huge canopy over the outdoor restaurant for where we had breakfast, every day, and some other lunches/dinners/afternoon drinks. Above the canopy is flat and you’ll have to look at my photo to understand how clever and cool it is. Sunrise from your window is worth the 7am wake up. I believe it’s family run and certainly feels that way. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was quite basic but very comfortable and had everything we needed. Perfectly white bedding, aircon worked well, shower pressure fab (the toilet flush was a bit awkward but worked ok once we got the hang of it). Need to get a taxi to head up to Taormina - which is a tourist hotspot for good reason- plenty of shops , restaurants and historic sites- as the roads are not wide enough to walk, far too dangerous. It says ‘1km’ but I’m guessing a crow flying took that measurement. Taxis are expensive too. We needed a large car for 6 adults and a baby and each trip was around €45. The beach is small and larger rocks, so weird for Australians, but it’s Europe, so…. Beach was well attended and there are chairs with umbrellas and tables that were were plentiful. A small menu but ok. The water feels amazing and the waves gentle.

Disappointingly dated and uncomfortable. The rooms are small with hard mattress and stingy old pillows. The bathroom is barely useable due to the cramped size and outdated hardware. The shower stall too tight and leaks onto the bathroom floor. You need to put your feet in the shower to use the toilet. Whilst the staff try hard to be accommodating, the whole building is a let down and needs renovations. On top of that the building is in a drive to location only. Forget walking anywhere the access road is unsafe. You’re paying an expensive room rate for the quality received. We felt it over rated as a four star hotel. Wouldn’t recommend.

Hotel overlooking the beach.. which would define it as a hotel with a spectacular view; but none of that. I'll start right from the beach, which is accessed by crossing the gloomy and not at all bright restaurant. Small beach, about 200 m2, also cramped, stifling and oppressive; sunbeds stacked in the corners, area not ventilated at all; full of pigeons, which, as we know, are carriers of dirt and diseases. A high wall encloses the beach, giving the impression of being locked in a prison. From the entrance to the rooms, nothing can be classified as a 4-star hotel, as they define themselves. Dilapidated structure throughout, from the furniture, lamps, switches, locks, elevators; bathroom worthy of a hostel; the toilet flush malfunctioning, you have to press hard several times to make it flush. Paid parking, unguarded and improvised on a terrible, uphill, dilapidated street. Breakfast average.. Terrace overlooking the sea that could be beautiful but is neglected, old and dirty. I could go on forever, but I conclude by saying that calling this hotel '4-star' is a 'theft'. Simply disgusting.
