Mamma Maria

My wife and I had been to Taormina two years earlier and we were delighted to return to it. Mamma Mia is an all year restaurant but in the summer you can sit outside with tables on the steps enjoying the lovely weather and watching other people a walking past. The waiters are constantly trying to lure in new customers and it's quite amusing to watch them using their charm in English, French and Italian. We really enjoyed the Italian food and will go back next time we are in Taormina.

I don't tend to write trip advisor reviews, but felt compelled after my stay at Mamma Maria's B&B. I will start off by saying, the only positive thing regarding our stay was the location. When my partner and I checked into our 4th and final stay in Sicily the owner was very welcoming, however when we entered the room the air con unit did not sufficiently cool it. We had stayed in 3 other places throughout our stay in Sicily and all had air con units which could cool a room to a comfortable temperature. We went to speak to the owner and explained it didn't appear to be working properly, so he said he would have a look. When we returned to the room later on that day, we found the room was still very warm, so went to speak to the owner who became very annoyed that we had questioned it again and he explained all of the rooms were like it and it is because it's so hot outside. The average temp during our stay was 30 plus degrees and we had 5 sleepless nights because of the hot room we had to endure...ironic that it was the hot temp outside causing the air con to not work when the communal breakfast area where the owners desk was had an air con unit which sufficiently cooled the room. That wasn't the only disappointment throughout our stay, on the booking site we booked a room with a terrace or balcony and we got juliet balconies (I don't think this is classed as a proper balcony). The booking site also said it came with a hair dryer on request, the hair dryer was blowing out cold air! We also asked for an iron on the first night and the owner said...tomorrow! We couldn't be bothered to ask after then. Part of the ceiling was falling down onto the bed, the only thing decent about the breakfast were the croissants, the cereal was stale...and to top it off, on one morning the owner was in the room above us, early in the morning banging and moving furniture around for well over an hour which kept us awake...we get the feeling he wasn't too happy about our complaint!....oh and one more thing, the wifi cut off at random intervals!

We booked the top floor room with the very large terrace with incredible views of Etna and the Coast. The apartment type room with kitchenette is decorated very nicely, very clean, and has all the amenities you need. The bed was a small double, so was a bit tight for those of us who are used to a king size for couples. You have daily housekeeping with fresh towels. There is a small elevator that goes right up to the top floor room. The breakfast was very nice, with a large fresh warm croisant and many other choices. Vito, the manager, was extremely friendly, helpful, and always available. The B&B has a great location, near the center of everything. All in all, I would highly recommend, expecially for the price, compared to so many of the high priced hotels in town. We really enjoyed our 3 nights at Mamma Maria.
