We really liked the Adria Hotel. It's situated on the outskirts of Merano, a ten-minute walk downhill to the town centre. You can walk along the pavement to the bridge which crosses the river into the town or alternatively  you can follow the pleasant, paved, criss-crossing paths through a wooded park which lead to the same bridge. On arrival we learned that we had been given an upgrade - we travelled with Inghams. Consequently we were given a huge room with a lovely big bathroom (shower, bath, bidet etc), and a sofa (bed). We also had a small balcony with a table and two chairs - very handy for drying clothes overnight. The staff at reception and in the breakfast room were charming and helpful. The room, which had lots of old-world  charm, was carefully serviced each day. The breakfast was excellent - I won't bother to list all the choices - the fresh orange juice-maker was especially popular. However, don't expect a full English breakfast! At tea-time free cakes were available in the breakfast room. We also ejoyed the pianist one breakfast-time. We were on a b & b basis  - those on a half-board basis took their evening meals at a sister hotel nearby.  In order to access the pool and spa facilities you pass through a pleasantly-lit tunnel. The pool was very nice but deeper perhaps than your usual hotel pool - not so good for a poor swimmer like me. However, I could do widths rather than lengths. The facilities were not busy at around six p.m and so we enjoyed long sessions in one of the two hot tubs. Merano (which we'd hardly heard of) is a lovely town with beautiful paved promenades with fantastic flower displays. We especially enjoyed walking alongside the waals, the ancient irrigation channels that line the hillsides. There are many classy shops in the town and plenty of restaurants. The valley is is one huge orchard with apple trees and vineyards abounding. The local bus service is excellent with buses running to nearby villages every 15 minutes. We took full advantage of our free tourist pass. The hotel also has a people carrier and we and other guests were given a lift to the starting point of one particular  walk one morning. I can heartily recommend  the Adria Hotel and Merano. Sent from my Galaxy

We had a Deluxe Double room with balcony on the first floor. We loved the room and the old-world style. High ceiling in the room. The whole hotel is like a fancy old spa place with marble floors and characteristic decor. Very tasteful. The wooden elevator is more than 100 years old and has an upholstered seat inside. The bathroom was also very tasteful and the shower was really good. Bubbles for breakfast and you could make your own freshly pressed orange juice. It’s simply a lovely and very stylish hotel.

We felt very, very comfortable here. The welcome was extremely nice. Warm towels and cold water were served. The Art Nouveau elevator is just as charming as the entire hotel and staff. It is rare that we have felt so comfortable. The breakfast is magnificent. We did not miss anything. To start off, there was even Prosecco in the morning on a car-free day. The hotel manager also recommended great excursion destinations to us. The beautiful garden with the pool area was a dream. An oasis of calm. The rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day and stocked with fresh towels. It is hard for us to say goodbye.
