Locanda La Capannuccia

This hotel, situated in the middle of the Chianti, on a very green hill, is a very charming and typical house. The tenants, a lovely old couple who live on site, are very nice and welcoming. The pool is very nice to relax by. I would however recommend to have a car in a good state to go there, as the hotel is reached through a dirt road on the hill (but it has never been a real problem). It is also worth noticing that there is no air conditioning. There is a fan in each room, but we arrived during a heat wave (around 40°C) so the first night was pretty warm. It should not be a problem in other cases, as old houses like this one tend to stay fresh in hot weather.

It was the second time we visited "La Cappanuccia". The first time we luckely found this secret paradise in the "lonley planet". Now we came back for our hooneymoon. I'm not quite sure what "Cappanuccia" means, but I found my own translation: peaceful hidden gem. This little countyhouse with only four rooms is perfect if you are trying to escape from work and the stressful everyday life. Located in the middle of the tuscan forest all you can hear is 100% nature. Only when a plane passes by, which happens very seldom, it's when you notice that there is a civilisation out there somewhere. The rooms are all individually fournished and you can feel the love the owners put into them. This time we had the lovely "grandparents" room. Original old cupboards or a washing table underline the tuscan countyside feeling without missing the modern things like a tv or fridge. The owners are a heartwarming italian couple which help you feel like beeing at home without disturbing any privacy. Even if it's only the second time we stayed here I want to call Daniela and Mario good friends. They understand and talk english so that there are no communication problems what so ever. My personal highlight is Mario's breakfast. Freshly made brushetta, pecorino and italian sausage direktly from the market. Fresh fruits, marmelades and homemade cake for the people who like a sweet breakfast. All accompanied by Mario's smooth jazz and classics collection. I've dreamed of it at home quite some times after our first stay. I don't understand other people complaining about the breakfast. You are in italy so don't expect eggs and bacon! The "Cappanuccia" is a bed and breakfast but Daniela also prepares an fantastic original tuscan dinner if you like to. Check out my pictures. Yes, there are some bugs outside, but for heavens sake it's in the middle of nature! I was lucky to take some pictures of bees and butterflies who enjoy the blooming lavender all around the house. So if you are a photographer don't forget to pack your macro. The windows are protected by screens so we did not see any bugs inside. La Cappanuccia is for everyone who wants to enjoy the true and original tuscan countryside life without missing tv or wifi.

After a long search for a place to stay in Tuscany we got a recommendation about this place. In order to get their you need to drive about a mile on a bumpy road inside the woods and then you'll get to this amazing cabin, owned by an old couple. The view from the cabin is absolutely astonishing. You can hear the forest around you always. We will definitely go back!
