De Rose Palace

Delighted with this find. Stayed here for 5 days/nights, unfamiliar with Florence. Hotel is beautifully clean and fresh (recent renovation I think) and the location was ideal for us - easy walk to everything but a v quiet residential area, on a wide, tree lined street just round the corner from river Arno, and ten min walk to train station. Nespresso, water and excellent toiletries. Friendly but unobtrusive staff. Kingfisher on river by hotel every morning of our stay.

Very comfortable place to spend your holiday. Very accommodating and sumptuous breakfast. The whole group was pleased with the cleanliness and flexibility when it came to checking out and leaving the suitcases in their storage facility

Since we had already seen from the photos when booking that the normal double room is too small for us, we had booked the more expensive superior double room. When we arrived in the evening we were assigned a very small room. I'm sure that can happen. But when we claimed it at the reception, we were told that this was the superior double room with 20 sqm. But since the room with bathroom had at most 15 sqm, we were sure that it was the normal double room. We explained it to the receptionist and also showed the photos from Booking.com, but only got a shrug, which we found very rude. If we had booked directly with the hotel now, we would have had no way to change anything. Luckily Booking.com helped us. One phone call, we explained the location and we had also taken photos and Booking.com solved it. After a short time we got a message from the hotel, but there was still a catch. We had to stay this night in this room, pack our things the next morning and leave the suitcases at the reception and were only allowed in the afternoon in our booked room ! Unfortunately, we lost one of our four days of vacation! No apology came from the hotel, let alone compensation! We have been travelling a lot since we became pensioners and we have sometimes been given the wrong room, but it has always been settled quickly and with an apology. At the BB Hotels Smarthotel Derose we did not feel well treated as a guest!
