Il Borgo Di Vescine

We attended an American wedding at this location and, unfortunately, the experience was severely compromised by both the organization and the attitude of the waitstaff. The first impression, unfortunately, was already negative upon arrival. The parking lot designated for guests was simply closed with a string and a sign that read "Park in the staff parking lot." There was no attendant present to welcome the guests or provide directions. We therefore found ourselves having to reverse, inevitably creating inconvenience for other arriving cars as well, to reach a second parking lot located higher up. The latter was reachable via a dirt road and, at the end of the evening, around 1:30 AM, we had to travel it in the dark, with poor lighting. The only exception was a staff member, blonde with long hair, who proved to be extremely kind and professional: she showed us where to sit, explained where the dessert tasting would take place, and told us that, upon the bride's arrival, we should wave our handkerchiefs. She was the only person who made us feel truly welcomed, and we wish to acknowledge her professionalism. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff left a completely different impression. What struck us most was the rudeness of some waiters, a behavior we would never have expected from a facility of this level. In particular, a waitress with dark brown hair tied in a ponytail proved to be unfriendly as early as the previous evening, during the welcome pizza party. From the beginning, she appeared annoyed and unhelpful toward the guests. Another incident that left us truly speechless concerns the seating arrangements. At one point, we realized there were not enough chairs, and I simply asked if it was possible to add two. The same waitress, instead of addressing me directly with courtesy, turned to a colleague and said, in front of me: "Explain to the young lady that if we take the chairs, they will be crowded." All this with an extremely arrogant and annoyed tone, absolutely out of place. I replied that it was not important to be a little more crowded, but that at least we would have the chance to sit down. I believe that such a simple request deserved politeness and helpfulness, not an attitude of condescension and rudeness. Other staff members also maintained a decidedly unprofessional attitude. A bald waiter and other colleagues spent a lot of time talking among themselves about personal matters and, even more unpleasantly, openly commenting on and criticizing the wedding in front of the guests. They probably thought that, since it was an American wedding, no one could understand what they were saying. But we are Italian and we understood every comment perfectly. Hearing the staff talk that way about the event they were serving was truly embarrassing. The most serious episode, however, was witnessing a fight between some waiters, who even went as far as hitting each other in the area at the back of the facility. A scene that we would never have imagined seeing during a wedding reception, let alone in a location that boasts five stars. We understand that working during important events can be demanding and stressful, but this cannot justify rudeness, inappropriate comments in front of guests, arguments between colleagues during service, and such sloppy management of the reception. We were truly disappointed because from a facility that is presented as a five-star location, one expects organization, attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for the guests. Unfortunately, in our experience, these aspects were almost completely missing. It is a real shame, because a wedding should be remembered for the beauty of the day and not for the inappropriate behavior of those who should contribute to making it special.

Il Borgo di Vescine is a beautiful property with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. One of the most interesting aspects of our stay was learning that the hotel was once a village. The history and charm of the property make it a truly unique place to visit. The location is very secluded, making it peaceful and quiet. If you have a car, there are two small nearby towns that are definitely worth exploring. Our room was very small, but it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wonderful variety of options each morning and was nice that it was included in our stay. The food offered by the bistro on property was good but also very expensive. Unfortunately, the service was inconsistent. While a few staff members were kind and welcoming, we generally didn't feel like hospitality was a priority. We often felt ignored, and it was difficult to get assistance when needed. We also arrived for an activity at the exact time our travel agent had reserved, yet the staff seemed annoyed that we were the first guests to arrive, leaving us feeling as though we had done something wrong even though we were simply following our itinerary. The reserved dinners were also a mixed experience. The Friday night Dinner in the Square was one of the highlights of our stay. It created a wonderful sense of community as guests gathered together to enjoy great food, excellent wine, and conversation. Everything was included, and it felt like an authentic Tuscan experience that I would absolutely recommend. On the other hand, I would skip the Dinner in the Olive Grove. While it was a multi-course meal, the portions were very small, and I actually left hungry. Even more disappointing, the meal cost about the same as the Dinner in the Square, but drinks were not included and had to be purchased separately. Overall, we found the property to be extremely expensive for the experience it offered. During our three-day stay, we had four meals on the property and participated in one self-guided Vespa tour, yet still spent around €1,000 in addition to our accommodations. Considering the quality of the service and dining, we didn't feel the value matched the cost. The setting is undeniably beautiful, but for us, this ended up being the most disappointing part of our Italy trip. While we're glad we experienced the historic village and stunning scenery, we would likely choose to stay elsewhere if we return to Tuscany.
