: unacceptable experience for a Relais at €320 per night Unfortunately, I must leave a decidedly negative review for my recent stay at the Osteria dell'Orcia. In light of a rate of €320 per night for a room, the service provided was completely inadequate. On days of extreme heat, the air conditioning was turned off during the day due to a malfunction, and at night it was so weak that it was imperceptible (it was definitely easier to breathe outside than in the room). Only after protesting was I given a fan, a solution that was "a bit makeshift" and completely insufficient to alleviate the heat. I find it unacceptable that a relais in this price range is unable to handle such an emergency or to refund part of the fee for such a serious service failure. Not recommended. Be careful if you want an egg for breakfast; it is extra.

If you want to go there to eat, as we did on the advice of acquaintances, don't do it. It was a terrible surprise compared to last year when the food was good and reasonably priced. This year, however, dinner for three (final bill: €127.00 for an appetizer, three first courses, and three glasses), it was supposed to be a special evening but was ruined by the rudeness of the staff, which I had never seen before in any restaurant, in addition to outrageous prices (€25.50 for a risotto served raw and tasteless, without even filling the plate, parmesan brought only because it was requested, €23.50 for an appetizer with burnt crostini) compared to the quality and quantity of the food, absolutely shameful for a 4-star relais. As for the rudeness, one waiter was so rude that I had to tell him to stop. Not only did he not apologize, but they also tried to add a bottle of water (€4.50) to the bill. We were not asked if we wanted a coffee or a digestif, as was done at the table next to us (just to make us feel that they were being asked... how low). We were not brought bread (aside from 2 small slices per person, counted and placed on the plate, of which, by the way, 1 slice was completely dried out) even after asking for it; in fact, that was when the waiter got upset and even refused to bring us oil (to at least make a bruschetta since we were hungry). For €7.50 for cover charge, I thought it was appropriate to leave a basket of bread and a bottle of oil on the table. Truly shameful. Ah, despite my complaints both during and after dinner, at the time of payment, no discount was given. Never again. Not even if they asked me to come back to eat for free would I return. The only positive note is that the place is very beautiful.

We were traveling as a family and wanted a small, authentic, charming Tuscan hotel located in the Val d'Orcia region. This hotel delivered in a big way. The location is perfect if you're looking to visit sites from Montalcino to Montepulciano to Pienza and further south. The property itself is small but beautifully landscaped. While too chilly to swim while we were there, the pool looked delightful. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating providing us with recommendations on wineries, restaurants and historic sites. The one dinner we had there was superb with an extensive wine list to pair with their delicious menu. The serving staff were all outstanding as well and were able to accommodate most of our dietary requests. You would be hard pressed to find a more perfect spot for all of your explorations in the area.
