Salvadonica Borgo Del Chianti

We absolutely loved every minute we spent at the Salvadonica. The property is lush and expansive, and it served as the perfect respite in the midst of a very busy Italian itinerary. We finally gave up taking pictures, because none seem to do the beauty of the area justice. Staff are kind and attentive and arranged for us to have an incredible couples' massage. The rooms are huge and well appointed. It was also an excellent jumping off point to visiting wineries in the area. The restaurant, La Volpenera, has the single best gnocchi dish I've had in my life and outstanding service. Our primary server previously worked in a Michelin starred restaurant, and it showed, but the restaurant has a comfortable feeling without the stuffiness that often accompanies restaurants of that caliber. While it was too cold to swim, we loved reading our books by the pool. I highly recommend a stay at the Salvadonica.

Why five stars all across the board? Because this is Salvadonica. Much more than just memorable. Lets start with the rooms. They are in very old and really well-maintained farmhouses. Spacious bathroom with modern fixings. Welcoming and air conditioned. Mini fridge, dress/coat rack and private safe on had too. The water pressure is brilliant for when shower time comes around. There's even a bidet. Service: 5 stars isn't enough. Everyone we were helped by during our 7 day stay (at least 10 different employees) made us feel as though we were their only priority. And they love to use the word yes. Don't speak Italian? Not a problem. Most of the staff at Salvadonica speak English. The site manager, Vieri is as hands-on as any other employee, is very approachable, and runs a commendably tight ship. All the wait staff were very helpful and nothing short of charming. They don't rush you like American restaurants do. So much so, we had to let them know when we were ready for the next course. Making a supper reservation that morning, or even the evening prior is recommended if you don't want to miss out. Location: 32 mins drive from Florence airport. When I arrived I was quite taken aback with how impressive the whole Tuscany experience grabs you. Visually it hits you right away. A stroll around Salvadonica's grounds is treat enough as it is, but at sundown it is instant romance. The swimming pool is in great shape and is suitably sizable. The beguiling Tuscana experience is also found in the neighboring towns. Every local we met offered an encounter ranging from friendly to enchanting. Italian clothing and shoe stores are a real delight. My only regret is I didn't bring an extra suitcase! The food. Oh boy. Magnifico. I should stop there, but I won't. Breakfast is included. If you can't find just what you want among what is on offer in the morning, you probably have the kind of pallet which requires you to take and make your own food wherever you go. They appear to have everything. If only my belly was large enough to enjoy it all. The selection is enormous. I was looking forward to eating at a different restaurant in neighboring towns for every night we were here. It turns out the food and overall dining experience on offer here is so good, we ate here (the restaurant is called The Black Fox/La Volpenera) every single night. It didn't hurt that they have gorgeous views from where you sit, superb service and ample culinary variety to immerse yourselves in. The lunch menu is equally deserving of superlatives. Be prepared to be knocked-out by their stunning local Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar served at La Volpenera. At the end of our week at Salvadonica, I was genuinely sad to leave. I cannot remember the last time I was made to feel so at home while I was on vacation. We all wanted to hug every one of their staff as we made our way out to load-up the car to drive back to the airport, but we left at 6:30 am, just before anyone had arrived for their shift.
