Wonderful B&B with a special breakfast picnic in a beautiful scenery. Room was clean and cozy with a good aircondition and minibar. Excellent and fast communication via WhatsApp. Appreciated flexibility in check-in and -out times and personal service.

Love this location, we booked a triple room (my wife and adult daughter) with a large bed and a single bed (divided by a wall)! 11th century building, I mean, come on! San Donato is a tiny bump off to the side of the road less than 10 min from San Gimignano. I would stay here again 100%. Check in: a bit confusing as our check in info was emailed day of arrival (we were on the road travelling) and it would have been a bit more convenient to have it sooner. Turns out the key was left in a coded key box outside of your suite entrance door. The reception was not open when we arrived late afternoon. If we paid closer attention to the check in email information it would be have been less confusing, we just assumed check in would be with a person at reception. We didn't end up paying for the room until 8am the next morning as after checking in we went and spent the afternoon and evening in San Gimignano and returned around 9:30pm and the reception was again closed. I communicated with the property via WhatsApp around 10pm to organize payment (which was to have happened at check in but it wasn't open) for early the next morning as we only stayed 1 night. I will say it was great communication to be able to organize the payment at such a late hour. The suite looks exactly like the pictures, just smaller in real life. Everything was as expected. Parking was included and the small little parking area was maybe 40m from our suite door. We found the next morning where you can have the outdoor breakfast they offer (we didn't do the breakfast) and it is a LOVELY location overlooking the fields and rolling hills. Can't say if it is good value but the location is great and special. There is a dirt road that leads down into the hills and we took a short walk down it, highly recommend it! Our best Tuscany views of the expected green Tuscan rolling hills with olive groves and vineyards was had on this short little walk. San Donato is tiny. Looked like a couple of restaurants and a few small accommodation places and a few residences plus a farm. A perfect stepping stone to the region by car or a perfect spot to be isolated and relaxed. There is no shopping, grocery stores etc, it literally is a bump on the side of the road. If you are looking for a place to stay that is nearly 1,000 years old, made of beams and stone, in a beautiful setting that is its own little area close to the touristy stops like Volterra, San Gimignano or Sienna, then this is a great place to stay. Vehicle required I'd say.
