Horrible experience!!! We showed up for our reserved room and found that it was no longer available. There was no one there to check us in at 1:30 PM (small, 3-4 room, shoddy hotel), so we had to search and find someone to call. We then reached Elisabetta (Casa Alla Fenice) and learned that she had already charged us a full-stay, “NO SHOW” fee and refused to refund the charges. She said that the reservation had been for a previous date, but we have solid documentation that we showed up on the correct date. I asked for her email so that we could forward our proof of the reservation and she refused to give it (did not even want to see it). She was very rude, condescending and uncooperative. She obviously did not care that we were tourists in a foreign land, and just left us to locate a new place to stay without any help from her. This obviously cost us much more money for a last minute room, but, more importantly, it truly ruined our stay in Venice. We finally ended up at the Rialto Hotel and we very pleased with them and their location.

Great location for visiting the sites of Venice. Less than 10 mins walk to Basilica. Bed was comfortable and the place felt clean. Towels changed on day 3. Not so great location for getting there from the train station. This was a bit of a disaster as Google Maps took us on a walking route from the train station which states 23minutes walk, but unexpectedly at the last few minutes takes you to a canal edge requiring you to cross by ferry. If we were going to take a ferry we would have taken it from a much earlier point, rather than at the last minute of our journey! A way around this if you want to make your way purely on foot is to put Rialto bridge into Google Maps first, this takes you to the main pedestrian crossing and then after you have crossed, put the hotel name into google maps. Bear in mind you will be going up and down numerous bridges which we struggled with with heavy cases (we are a couple in our 30s). It took us around 45 minutes to walk from the station to the hotel. Alternatively you can take a water taxi which is 80 euros..

We stayed here for a couple of nights; rooms were not so clean; we found near bed a makeup remover disc and condom packaging(just a part of if); floors were dirty. There was a strong smell of mold, at least in the room at the ground floor; sheets on the bed were clean. Another thing I didn’t like, since we had a Booking reservation, one hour before our arrival the owner cancelled our reservations(no additional costs were charged to us however) so we won’t be able to add a review on Booking.
