Residenza Ai Giardini

Stayed 2 nights here, booked fairly last minute and was the only thing actually in Venice of a reasonable price. Check in did not go smoothly, we were around the corner at a restaurant and got a text saying our keys for self check in were in the lobby etc… we made our way around to the hotel and arrived just after 1 (the listed check in time), there was indeed an envelope of keys waiting, we went up to the room to see the door wide open, the rugs hanging out the open windows and a mop and bucket in the room. A few minutes later a lady came in who was the cleaner and said she needed another 10 minutes. We sat in the hall for half an hour in the end before we finally got into the room. When we got in we discovered one of the bathroom lights didn’t work and there was no remote control for the air conditioning. We took a nap on the rock hard mattress and woke up covered in mosquito bites, we later noticed 2 of them in the room presumably from where the windows had been left open with the rugs hanging out of them. The person I spoke to on WhatsApp the next day was helpful and fixed the light and left the remote for the air conditioning. The location is great, it’s 5 minutes walk from the Vaporetto stop in a nice neighbourhood. There’s a bar/restaurant at the end of the street that’s nice also. Overall if you’re on a really tight budget this could work but otherwise find somewhere else.

No reception on arrival and no assistance during your stay. Smell in the structure of old and stale. Room on the second floor without elevator with steep stairs. No linen change, no cleaning of the room between nights, incomplete towels. Switch plates attached to the wall with tape. No filters at the taps. Inefficient toilet flushing. Rainwater infiltration from the roof onto the balcony. Chilling experience.

We stayed three nights in Residenza Al Giardini. We have mixed impressions from our stay. On positives is the service from the lady was doing the housekeeping, she was very nice and helpful. On negatives was the small size of our room, a double room should be larger. Also the mattress wasn't comfortable, they need to change mattress asap. We had wifi in ground floor but not in our room, who was in second floor. Only the third day when I contacted landlady, informed me there is a booster in second floor and advised password. She should advise booster password from day one.
