Moxon Beach

This boutique hotel has seen better days. A remodel is needed but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. We ate two meals in the restaurant and I will say that they served the best Jerk chicken that I’ve ever had! We met the owner, very pleasant.

This is my 4th or 5th visit to this property which I absolutely adore. It’s a completely unpretentious boutique hotel in Stewart Town approximately 5 minutes drive from the Ian Fleming Airport in Boscobel. I usually stay in room 305 but this time I was given room 402. The room had a wonderful balcony with stunningly breathtaking views. In my opinion it’s always advisable to get an ocean view room. There’s no better feeling than being lulled to sleep by the lapping waves and woken up by the sunrise. This room had a sliding door and then a separate mesh door, which means you could leave the glass door open and then slide the mesh door across to keep the mosquitoes out. The room had AC and a ceiling fan. I didn’t use the AC as I’m not really keen on it. Using the overhead fan and leaving the door open was sufficient for me. This room had a coffee machine which I used as a kettle for tea. There was a fridge in the room which I used to store my fruit, salad and water. The bathroom had a bath tub and separate shower. The hot water was always hot and plentiful. The WiFi was a little spotty but that is to be expected in rural Jamaica. It wasn’t a problem for me and allowed me to unwind even more. There is a menu where you can order breakfast lunch and dinner prepared by the wonderful Carlton. I didn’t have breakfast but had several evening meals which were tasty and hearty. In my opinion this is an exceptional hotel and is truly a hidden gem. The pictures of the property on Tripadvisor do not do this property justice and need to be updated. Moxons have their own updated website which shows more recent pictures. If you want to experience a more authentic side of Jamaica, Moxons is for you. I happily get the local route taxis and buses to Ocho Rios (about 15 minutes away) and to visit family about 20 minutes away. I move around the community and use the local shops in Stewart town for water, fruit and snacks without any issues. If you want a sanitised version of Jamaica where you stay in all inclusive resorts and only leave the property on escorted tours, do not come to Moxons. The owner Johanne and her butler Carlton always make me feel like I’m coming home.

The pool and beach area are awesome. Unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there; I was very upset as we could not enjoy all the facilities but they looked great. There’s also a lounge with games and a pool table which we played at night, and an outdoor lounge area. The rooms are very basic but super clean!! Highly recommend, and thank you Joanne and Carlton for being amazing hosts!
