The Cypress Mercure Hotel Nagoya

I stayed with my American husband for one night. This is a hotel that JTB prepared for us with a package to go to Ghibli Park. This JTB package is for foreigners and is sold for considerably more than the comparatively real price. The two of us pay about 80,000 yen in Japanese yen. Ghibli Park ticket and overnight stay at this hotel with breakfast included (transportation not included, no tour). That's it. The two of us at Ghibli Park don't get 20,000, so the other 50,000 is split between JTB and the hotel. So, to be honest, I thought it was an age-old hotel for the price. Actually, I was staying at a hotel in Kobe just before this hotel, and although the hotel was aging, I was satisfied with the quality of amenities and facilities more than the price, so I inevitably compare them, but I honestly thought that this Za Cypress Mercure Hotel Nagoya was a shame overall. The front desk was attentive and helpful, and there was absolutely no problem with the response. Unfortunately, I only have one key per room. Wasn't this something like a metal key with a bill or a plastic stick in the past? The reason to change it to a card is that unlike the old key, you can make multiple copies, and if you can't do that, I think an ordinary metal key is fine. Couldn't that produce a hotel that feels nostalgic? I think of it as a hotel that can't get along with the modernization trend. The amenities were lonely for the price. I'm glad I stayed overnight, I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be a repeat visitor.

In general we enjoyed our 2 night stay. The room was a nice size and was clean. The decor of the hotel is a little dated but we found it to be quite cool. The buffet breakfast was fine with a nice selection. The location is great for Nagoya station and also the bus station if you are planning on going to Ghibli Park. If we ever return to Nagoya we would certainly consider staying again.

Was at first rather hesitant to book this hotel given the mixed reviews I read here but the stay turned out to be way better than expected. For a start it is just less than 5 mins away from Nagoya station for anyone arriving into Nagoya by train and less than 10 mins walk to the train station that arrives from the airport. The hotel is indeed rather old from the decor of the lobby as well as the room. The room though rather old looking is clean and well sized by Japanese standard . The bathroom however is rather awkwardly designed that it is rather tight when trying the close the door. The room also comes with a good working table but the challenge is with the weak WiFi signal ! The bed is also low which means getting on and off the bed rather uncomfortable otherwise every thing is good for the room. The breakfast however was a disappointment was we would have chose to skip it ! Overall the location of the hotel would be the standout point for anyone who wants convenience .
