Hotel Pearl City Akita Omachi

I was in Akita for business and was put in this hotel by the travel agent (JTB) that made the arrangements. It was disappointing on all counts--small rooms, uncomfortable beds, few restaurants nearby. I recommend the Dormy Inn, if you are in Akita. I've stayed there several times and it is better in every way.

This hotel looks amazing in the website photos but in person it is somewhat dilapidated outside and worn down inside. My single twin bed room was 5250 yen with a 6ft high 5ft wide unit bath, a window that wouldn't open, no internet connection, and no AC. Other rooms were in a similar situation in regard to the "capsule" bath and no AC - not sure how people stay here comfortably in the summer months! You need to speak Japanese to communicate effectively with the staff. Breakfast was perhaps the only redeeming quality and that was average at best. This location is also in the middle of nowhere since you have to walk about 10 minutes south to find any restaurants. Best to find a hotel closer to Akita Station where there are lots of restaurants right outside and the Seibu Department store and banks/ATMs where you should be able to purchase yen.
