Comfort Hotel Narita

I’ve stayed at a half dozen or so Comfort Hotels in Japan. They are largely all the same. Small room, reasonable price, free (modest) breakfast. I pre-checked in before arrival since I would get in around 11 pm. I had a QR code and should only have to scan it at the kiosk and head to my room. Should. So I get there and head to a kiosk. One of the two guys at check in comes over to “assist” me. His real reason is to come bother me about whether I as a foreign looking person live in Japan. I pre-checked ln to avoid this nonsense about giving them a copy of my passport. I live in Japan and do not carry my passport. It isn’t required for us. I explained in Japanese that if I’m speaking to him in Japanese then he can assume I live here. I thought he’d go away at that point, but he didn’t. While trying to get my QR code to work at the kiosk, I said in the Japanese to him, “This is supposed to be a contactless check-in, so why is there a person standing next to me watching?” He finally took the hint and went back behind the counter. I went to my room, annoyed. Note to Choice: Not all of us who look foreign are tourists. I’ve been in Japan longer than the check in person has been alive… Anyway, the room is fine. Small, but fine for one person. Tight for two. Good air conditioning. Small very tight bathroom. Breakfast this morning was simple, but ok for light eaters. I stay here because of the cost mainly. Overall, an ok stay before a flight out of the country.

Small cramped room and bathroom. Hotel is old and uncomfortable. Had made request for room on higher floor with good city views but was instead assigned a room on third floor with view looking to another building. No manager or supervisor on duty for complaint. Check in is done by machine. Surprised at the poor quality of the Hotel despite being part of a major hotel chain like Choice Hotels. Do not recommend this hotel in Narita as there are many other choices in same area.

There is no free shuttle bus service between Narita Airport and the hotel, but it is easy to make an action plan if you keep in mind that the train from the airport to Keisei Narita Station, the nearest station to the hotel, is about 10 minutes and the walk from the station to the hotel is 3 minutes. There was also a staff member who spoke English at the front desk, but check-in was done by an automatic check-in machine. The front desk is located just up to the second floor of the building by elevator. The twin rooms were well cleaned and there was plenty of room for suitcases. Breakfast is served from 6 a.m., which is convenient.
