Hotel Mystays Matsuyama

When we arrived at this hotel, the front entrance is very welcoming and looks really nice. We approached staff that weren’t very welcoming. We eventually got to our allocated room, the smell of cigs was strong stepping out of the lift. The room was extremely dirty with stained curtains and stained bedding. Strong smelling of smoke and cramped. We could not stay in this room with the condition of the bedding and smell. We asked staff for a change of room which they kindly facilitated. Our new room was still very cramped with stained bedding, tears in the wall paper and toilet moved when you sat on it. We where only staying one night thankfully. One positive was it was close to the castle which we where able to see the following morning. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you like cleanliness and comparing to other hotels that we have stayed in during our trip with no stars, I was shocked that this hotel was 4 star.

Today I encountered an incident of discrimination against foreigners, and at the time of leaving the house on 2/2/28/2026, a former short-haired female worker wanted to get me 2 12-hour free parking tickets and asked me in Japanese: "When will the parking stop?" I heard the Japanese meaning of the phrase, but in order to prove that I am a foreigner, I replied "Sorry?", originally thinking that she would ask me in English again, and the result was just to exchange one of the 12 hours of free parking tickets for 3 hours of free parking tickets. The original 24-hour free parking voucher turned into a 21-hour free parking voucher, I said I was going to Matsui City for a walk and then left the parking lot, can I give me another 3-hour free parking voucher? She answered me in English "You want to pay yourself, because the check-out time is 11:00, the rest of the time to pay yourself" I think it is reasonable, but at first it is clear to give me 2 12-hour free parking tickets, after knowing that I am a foreigner, did not ask me in English "please ask when to stop parking?" Instead of directly take 1 12 hours, 3 3 hours free parking ticket to me, if this employee's English is not good, can also use translation software to communicate with me, but this employee is directly give up communication. I feel unfairly treated as a foreigner, and I am sad, only because I am a foreign guest, I cannot enjoy the same treatment as Japanese guests. We hope that this short-haired female employee with a discriminatory mindset will be able to treat every guest fairly in the future.

We spent 2 nights here. It is a dated hotel, but the upside of that is a slightly larger room than you find elsewhere. The room itself was clean and comfortable, and had a lovely view out over the castle. The location was an easy walk to the train station, and conveniently located for the tram to other parts of the city. A simple, comfortable stay.
