Hida Takayama Washington Hotel Plaza

Directions: Arrived at Takayama Bus stop. Took about 5 mins with luggage to reach hotel. Opposite of Takayama station. Crossed the main road and can be reached. Lobby was on level 2. Room:1 X Semi-Double Room - Non-Smoking Duration: 3 nights Service : Good and friendly staff. Staff at the lobby able to converse in basic English. Check in and out was smooth and quick. Value : Ok. Direct booked with hotel site. Wi-Fi: Free in room. Decent Wi-Fi signal. Room : Able to fit in 2x Medium sized luggages. TV had mostly Japanese channels if recalled. Toilet/bathroom basically ok. Heater worked ok. Aircon worked ok. Food: Did not consume any hotel food. Sleep Quality: Good. No serious disturbance. Laundry/ Others: Coined laundry was on the Lobby L2 level along with bathhouse. Did not use. Cleanliness: Decent. No major issue. Gym / Pool: Not aware of. Location: Good. Opposite of Takayama train station and bus terminals gave transport options. Convenience store, restuarants and few souvenir shops were just beside the hotel. Overall : Good for short stay. Stayed 3 nights. Convenient location to explore local areas and day trips.

The hotel room is clean looks good, a little old glory, shower you do in the bath. In the bath hangs a shower curtain which sticks to you during the shower that is not nice. Otherwise a great hotel. Breakfast is really a Japanese breakfast you have to love.

I chose the Washington Hotel mainly because of its excellent location. It is right in front of Takayama JR Station, and the Nohi Bus Terminal, which I needed to use, is located next to the station as well. It takes about a 15-minute walk from the station to reach the old town area. There is a FamilyMart nearby and a tax-free drugstore right next door, which is very convenient. Overall, the location is excellent. The single room is very small (about 11 square meters), but I was prepared for that. Although the room has a unit bath, you can also use the large public bath if you prefer. I don’t think it is a hot spring, but it is still nice to have. Amenities are available at the reception—just take whatever you need. Coin laundry is also available. Breakfast is offered for JPY 1,800. Room facilities include: TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, hair dryer, electric kettle, hangers, mini fridge, pajamas, and towels. One very helpful service is that they can keep your luggage even after check-out, which makes sightseeing much easier.
