Hidamarinoyu Flop House

Upon arrival your shoes are taken from you and locked away while they hold the key, controlling when you leave the premise, with a lockout from 23:00 to 7:00. From there they give you a bed in a 20+ person dormitory with no linen and a tiny pillow to sleep on and shut you away as to not inconvenience them any further. No shower unless you pay 700¥ for their Onsen downstairs, no cutlery, crockery or hot water and when we asked for this we were shouted at and shepparded back to our dorm. Additionally when we arrived the only English speaking employee left to do something else and left us unable to properly communicate with the other staff. The only good thing about this place the dinner table story of just how atrocious and hostile their service was. I would recommend staying anywhere else in Takayama before visiting here.

Pickup was nice but its a long way from anywhere. On arrival shoes go into a locker to which you give the key to staff so that they can ensure you dont leave without them knowing. You are not allowed to enter or leave between 11pm and 7am. Facilities for the unit were a bed, blanket and a sack of rice as a pillow. No shower/linen/bath facilities unless you pay an extra ¥700 to use the onsen facilities. No hot water or tea/coffee facilities, request for a bowl for breakfast were rudely denied. You can stay in town for ¥400 more and you get a shower Dont bother wasting your time or hard earned $

Stayed here 1 night for holiday with party of 9. The guest house is located within the Spa/Onsen resort which is a good thing. You enter from main entry, and go for 2nd floor for reception. Remember to take off ur shoes in the 2nd floor. Guesthouse reception is the same as Onsen reception. Shared bathroom, clean of course, you must pay extra to enjoy the Onsen (recommended). This properties is located 3km from Takayamanouhi bus station, expect to pay 1600 Yen for taxi ride, but they also have free shuttle from the station. So if your time table is ok, just take shuttle to save money. Consider a guest house and onsen, prepared to pay 300Yen if u intend to use the shower facility. Every other thing is there, vending machine, restaurant etc. Nice place to stay in Takayama
