Hakodate Rich Hotel Goryokaku

This time we only stopped in Hakodate to cross over to Honshu by ferry the next morning. We were looking for a hotel near Goryokaku Tower as it was relatively close to the ferry terminal and had a good selection of restaurants, and we found BRS Hakodate Goryokaku. Hotel BRS Hakodate Goryokaku is a business hotel that specializes in accommodation, but it seems to be a relatively new hotel. The rooms inside the building were clean. We didn't have breakfast as we checked out rather early in the morning, but the space in the slightly small room was more than enough. Our twin room was a corner room, and we could see Goryokaku Tower up close from the north-facing window. Hotel prices have been rising across the board recently, but compared to the level and content of the hotel, it was very reasonable.

This is a pretty nice hotel all things considered - comfortable, quiet, and clean. The room was a typical business-style hotel room with a double bed, and was plenty big enough for our purposes (bigger than a typical Tokyo hotel although not so big by global standards. It came equipped with a shower, bath, fridge, and amenities like a kettle and so on. All the basics were done very well. There is also free WiFi available throughout which is reasonably fast, and a LAN cable should you need it. Elsewhere, laundry facilities, a public computer, and vending machines were available. There is a convenience store just across the street from which you can buy most items you might need as well. Staff were very helpful as well and provided things such as extra pillows when asked. While we didn't eat it, breakfast is also available for 900 yen. The location is fantastic being five minutes from the Hakodate tram line and from Goryokaku Park, one of the major attractions in the city. It was also very easy to get to from the airport because the bus stops very close to it. The hotel also has an arrangement with the local taxi company to offer fixed prices to certain places - for example, to Hakodate Station is 1030 yen, down from the normal 1500 or so. Goryokaku also has a lot of excellent restaurants - I particularly recommend a place called Hige, which serves steak and Japanese style Hamburg steak. If I had one complaint it would be that the lobby and public areas are quite smoky since the smoking area is left exposed. If you don't like this it might be a bit offputting. Thankfully, however, our room didn't have this issue and it's pretty minor, all things considered. All in all, we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely consider it again if we come back to Hakodate.

This is a clean, and simple hotel which is near the Goryokako tower and park. The rooms are of reasonable size by japanese standard with 2 super single beds. Breakfast is simple japanese food, nothing to shout about, but for ¥900, it's considered good. Only down point is they only have 1 elevator and it's very busy in the morning. Other than that, I would recommend to anyone to stay here.
