A very old hotel ;think they have 2 buildings old & new one (maybe, no time to explore the hotel). Sadly I got the older buildings 🥲 which it looks in need for renovation, alot things inside the room are wear & tear & shown bad aging. And didn’t looks properly maintain. Keys also still using a normal keys (not card). I email the hotel asking about parking but never receive any replied 😂😂🤷🏻‍♀️ parking is free btw but limited. the room has tatami style which means we will sleep on the floor (got matress).. the chair & massage chair looks so old & dirty, I don’t dare to sit down. Toilet & shower area (have japanese style bath tub) are separate. The shower are only have orange light so it kind creepy & scary during night time 😂. Day time are okay. Breakfast surprisingly good (food was tasty). Just so strange the front desk officer gave me breakfast coupons to eat just from 8-9 am (means only 1hr breakfast). 😅 There are mens, ladies & mix gender onsen provided. For mix gender onsen, the hotel provided complimentary swimsuit (if you want to go to the mix gender onsen, you must wear hotel swimsuits & not allow use our own). We didn’t try the onsen because the entry to the onsen was abit confusing. So we decided to skip. No housekeeping during our 2 nights stay & they just leave new towels & disposable tooth brush on our door. Breakfast also has same menu for our 2 nights stay. For the price paid, I wouldn’t came back.

Sounkyo Kankou Hotel wasn’t cheap, but not overly expensive either. As many other reviews mention, it is an old hotel, but my partner and I actually enjoy that retro Japanese feel. It makes us feel grateful to experience something more traditional. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was because you can enjoy the onsen together as a couple. We love an onsen, and doing it together made it even more special. That said, the onsen setup was a bit confusing at first, where to go, what to wear, etc. But we figured it out. My partner wore brown swim trunks, and I had a one-piece shorts and top outfit. It was perfectly fine once we got settled. Dinner was nice, though the dessert was a bit underwhelming. There were soft drinks available, which was a plus. The hotel is definitely old, you get a normal key, and the walls are quite thin, but that’s part of the charm for us. We chose our yukata on arrival and wore them for almost 24 hours. It really added to the experience. Yes, it might be slightly overpriced considering how dated it is, but we loved it all the same. For those who appreciate that nostalgic, traditional atmosphere, it’s a lovely stay.
