In my last few visits to Otaru, I always stayed in Hotel Sonia Otaru. The hotel faces the Otaru canal, which is the most famous sight of the city. It’s just a short walk to the shopping street, and there are many restaurants nearby. This time we made a mistake in my reservation, and the reception staff Nam patiently helped us and arranged two rooms where the reservation had been cancelled. It’s the first time I stayed in the south wing. The room looks newly furbished and is spacious. I enjoyed the onsen at the 7/F of the hotel, which provides a great view of the canal and the sea. Will definitely stay again in this hotel when I visit Otaru next time.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room is extremely old and does not meet basic hotel standards. The reception staff were highly unprofessional throughout our stay. We repeatedly requested a room upgrade and clearly stated that we were willing to pay for it, yet our requests were consistently rejected with the excuse that the hotel was fully booked. However, when we checked other hotel booking platforms, rooms were clearly still available. This was misleading and unacceptable. The overall experience was extremely disappointing, and the service lacked honesty and professionalism. I strongly dislike both the service and the hotel, and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Except for the location, it sucks. The whole hotel is cold. The ceiling is low. The door of the unit bus hits the toilet seat. Getting to the public baths requires changing elevators, which is a hassle. The guest rooms are not well cleaned overall. Dust on the back of the TV. There was also a thin layer of dust on the window poles. For dinner, I tried the SUSHI & GRILL course in Ikutsu, but the 6 pieces of nigiri is subtle. The front desk is always crowded, the breakfast venue is crowded, too small and restless. There were a lot of other things, but the best was the bed sheets and covers. I don't think they've replaced it. It was dry but had liquid that probably belonged to a man. I'm extremely uncomfortable and uncomfortable.
