This is a popular inn with a Showa-era feel that was also used in the filming of From the North Country. It has a great atmosphere in the center of Sapporo. The rooms are of course tatami rooms with futons. Although small, there is a large public bath that is open 24 hours a day, so it is relaxing and satisfying. Next time I'd like to have breakfast as well.

The ryokan is about 10-15 minutes walk from Sapporo station. When I checked in , I was told that the city was full of teenagers because of some sport competition (indeed when we walked in the city in was overloaded with teens). So many of the rooms in the ryokan were filled with young men, giving the feeling of staying at a hostel. The place also had an unpleasant scent. The people who ran the place were very courteous and accommodating.

Compared to my earlier stays in Ryokans throughout Japan, Nakamuraya is just not good enough. Their Onsen is a laugh, barely bigger than my bathtub at home and cramped inside the building with no veiws to the outside. Their food is just about adequate, nothing to write home about. In short - not impressed!!
