Arima Onsen Taketoritei Maruyama Ryokan

We chose Arima Onsen Taketoritei Maruyama for one night. The first thing that stood out is the variety of room types (30 in total, all with unique layouts), so there's something for most preferences and budgets. We booked the Deluxe Twin Room with Indoor Silver Onsen and felt the price-to-value was good. The "Silver" refers to Ginsen, the clear variant of Arima's two famous waters (the other being the iron-rich, brown Kinsen). The room itself is spacious for a couple, with a comfortable sitting area, and of course its own private onsen. A nice touch: the fridge is stocked with complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is also a free lounge with non-alcoholic drinks available throughout the stay. On top of the in-room bath, guests can book any of the 8 private onsen (4 indoor, 4 outdoor) at no extra cost on a first-come, first-served basis, and if availability allows, you can book a second one. Note that there is no large gender-segregated public bath at Taketoritei, so all bathing is private. We liked the place so much that we wanted to extend our stay by another night. Unfortunately, and understandably, our exact room was already booked. The most basic room they offered as an alternative was actually priced higher than what we had paid for the better one. A bit odd, but in Japan there is rarely much room for negotiation, so we declined and moved on. The hotel sits on a steep climb up from town, but a free shuttle service runs to and from the centre of Arima Onsen. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for three nights as a family with young kids after skiing at Rokko Snow Park, and it was the perfect unwind. Every detail made our stay truly special. The Team The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Special shoutout to Tan-san, who greeted us at check-in, gave us a thorough room tour, and patiently explained all the facilities — especially how to book the private onsens. Whenever we ran into him around the hotel, he would warmly greet us and ask if we needed anything at all. Our stay simply wouldn't have been as memorable without him. Our Suite Room We booked a Suite with in-room onsen, and it was fantastic for a family. It featured a bedroom with two single beds plus two futons, a spacious living room equipped with cooking and dining gear (perfect for casual family meals), and a big bathroom with our own private onsen. There was plenty of space to spread out our ski gear, and it felt like a cozy home away from home. Private Onsens With 8 private onsens (4 indoor, 4 outdoor), this was a highlight. We tried three different outdoor ones, each with a serene, restorative vibe — especially soothing after a day on the slopes. Booking was straightforward thanks to the staff's guidance. Laundry Room After skiing, the dedicated laundry room was a lifesaver. Clean machines, easy to use, with free washing powder provided — we could wash and dry our clothes and towels without any hassle. Little Touches The lobby's free drinks (coffee, tea, soft drinks) and ice cream treats were such a thoughtful addition. Simple gestures like these really elevated the experience. This ryokan perfectly balances traditional onsen charm with family-friendly practicality. We can't wait to return!

Great facility awful staff no hospitality. Room had room for 8 people, and yet no guests allowed, so kicked out and had to book another hotel.
