Daiwa Roynet Hotel Tsukuba

日本語版は以下です。 (Japanese version below.) I visited this hotel on 24 May at around 3:00 pm, not as a guest, but simply to help my friend carry luggage during check-in. My friend was moving hotels that day and had two large suitcases, so I was only helping with one of them. I was not staying at the hotel, and given the time and situation, I do not think it would have appeared that I was entering as an overnight guest. However, despite my friend explaining the situation, I was asked to sign a form in order to enter the guest room area, and was then also required to wear a name tag around my neck. I was simply helping to carry a suitcase, yet the way this was handled and communicated felt extremely humiliating and uncomfortable. I have lived in Japan for almost a decade and stayed at many hotels, and this was the first time I have experienced something like this. I understand that hotels may have security policies, but at least from what I could see, there was no indication anywhere that visitors are required to sign in or wear a name tag. My friend then asked where this rule was stated and requested clarification, but no clear notice or supporting information could be provided at the time. Even after that, there was no explanation or apology. If this is indeed an official hotel policy, then the requirement for visitors to sign in and wear a name tag should be made clearly visible during booking or within the hotel itself. At the very least, this is important information for future guests to know in advance. Had this been communicated clearly, it could have influenced hotel choices and prevented uncomfortable situations such as this one. In particular, the tone and attitude of the two female staff members involved felt very cold and showed little consideration for the circumstances. The issue was not the rule itself, but the way it was communicated and handled. A few days earlier, I had also helped the same friend with luggage at another hotel. The staff there initially assumed I was waiting to check in, but once I explained that I was not staying, they simply responded politely and naturally without any further issue. This made the handling at this hotel feel even more unusual. To be honest, based on this experience, I would probably have had a better experience dealing only with a check-in machine rather than with the staff interaction I received. The staff may simply have been following hotel policy, but this experience left a very negative impression on me. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would be reluctant to stay at this hotel or other Daiwa Roynet hotels in the future unless I had no reasonable alternative. 今回、私は宿泊するためではなく、5月24日午後3時頃、友人のチェックイン時に荷物を運ぶ手伝いをするためだけにホテルを訪れました。友人がホテルを移動する日で、大きなスーツケースを2つ持っていたため、そのうち1つを運ぶのを手伝っていただけです。私は宿泊者ではありませんでした。また、時間帯的にも宿泊目的で部屋へ行くような状況には見えなかったと思います。 しかし、友人が事情を説明したにもかかわらず、客室エリアへ入るために名前を記入する書類への署名を求められ、その後さらに首から下げる名札の着用まで求められました。ただ荷物を運ぶ手伝いをしていただけにもかかわらず、その対応や説明の仕方も含めて非常に屈辱的で不快に感じました。 日本にはもう10年近く住んでおり、多くのホテルを利用してきましたが、このような経験は初めてでした。ホテル側にセキュリティ上の方針があること自体は理解できます。しかし、少なくとも私が確認した範囲では、訪問者が署名や名札着用をしなければならないという案内やルール表示は見当たりませんでした。 さらに友人がそのルールについて確認し、どこに記載されているのか尋ねましたが、その場では明確な案内や根拠を示していただくことはできませんでした。それにもかかわらず、対応への説明や謝罪はありませんでした。 もしこれがホテルとして正式なルールであるならば、訪問者の署名や名札着用が必要であることを、予約時やホテル内で分かりやすく公表・案内すべきだと思います。少なくとも、これから利用を考えている方々にとっては事前に知っておくべき情報だと思います。事前に分かっていれば、ホテル選びの判断材料にもなりますし、今回のような不快な状況も避けられると思います。 特に対応された2名の女性スタッフの話し方や態度は非常に冷たく感じられ、状況への配慮が全く感じられませんでした。問題なのはルールそのものではなく、その伝え方や接し方だと思います。 また、数日前にも同じ友人の荷物運びを別のホテルで手伝いました。その際、スタッフの方は私がチェックイン待ちだと思われたようでしたが、宿泊しないことを伝えると、それ以上何かを求められることもなく、丁寧かつ自然に対応していただきました。そのため、今回の対応にはより強い違和感を覚えました。 正直なところ、今回の対応を受けるくらいなら、スタッフ対応ではなくチェックイン機だけの方がよほど良い体験だったと思います。 スタッフの方はホテルのルールに従っていただけかもしれませんが、この件で非常に悪い印象を受けました。残念ながら、この経験を踏まえると、今後は特別な事情がない限り、ダイワロイネットホテル系列を利用したいとは思えません。

It is conveniently located in front of Tsukuba Center by express bus from Tokyo. The staff on the phone at the time of booking was wonderfully accurate and reassuring. Breakfast was buffet style with many items. This is a hotel I would like to visit if I had the chance again.
