Tenku no Yado Daikanso

My family of four stayed in the dog room, and my parents stayed in the room above. The dog room did not have any special facilities for dogs, which was actually a good thing, so we brought all of our daily necessities. We moved around the building in a cage, and when we went for a morning walk, they kept the empty cage for us (we left it at the entrance), and we were greeted with a smile, so I was glad we came with our dog. We had dinner in the restaurant, and breakfast in a nice private room that didn't feel like a guest room. We had a great stay with delicious food and a great bath.

Wakura Onsen is the place for ryokans and onsens. I ended up here by chance as it was the only room i could find in the area during a long weekend. It is a very big ryokan, traditional as it can be (staff welcoming and waving goodbye, yukatas in the room, tatami and futon sleeping etc.) but lacking some key elements. In a very hot Japanese summer, the air condition was not strong enough and despite the kind nakaisan who brought me an electric fan, it was too hot in the room to either stay or even sleep. I had to insist for them to bring the breakfast in the room (despite the fact that this is what is typically done). They do not speak a lot of English but the reception staff at least tried to give some recommendations and did so with a very smiley face. The real highlight of the visit was the view from my room: it was in the top floor and i could see the bay and tranquil waters, really beautiful!

We were welcomed from the car park to our room. The nakaisan who was looking after us was so pleasant and full of knowledge. From our window we could see over the ocean and we enjoyed a bottle of red wine while watching the sun go down. Then our wonderful dinner was brought to the room. Amazing local food presented beautifully and all delicious. There was a bath attached to the room but we went to the open bath. There was also an outside bath attached to these with views over the water. After soaking in the water we returned to our room to soft futons that had been laid out for us. Breakfast was served in our room as well and was just as delicious as the evening meal. A place my husband and I will visit again.
