We had a wonderful stay at Gen Hakone Gora. The entire experience was incredibly relaxing especially following Tokyo. The lobby and whole hotel is peaceful, and smells great. Service was great and everyone was so friendly even to our kids, the setting made it easy to completely unwind. We had a spa on our balcony which made it sure easy to enjoy. We were also able to reserve a large family room which made it easy to spend time together as a family. Our kids loved the spa, snacks, and origami that was in the room. The meal service and experience was excellent and it felt very special, with beautifully prepared food and presentation. Coffee was so delicious. We also had a great massage, the spa is open late so we could enjoy Hakone, dinner and then unwind with a massage. Overall, this was a perfect place to relax and enjoy Hakone. I would hughly recommend it especially traveling with kids

We stayed here for 2 nights — wish it had been more. The hotel is nice. The service is impeccable. The shuttle picked us up at the train station with minimal notice. The facility was clean and beautiful. Our room was amazing — we stayed on the top floor with our own private bath. Excellent meals were served in our room by meticulous staff. Mai was the young woman taking care of our room and she was great — so polite, excellent service, answered our questions friendly. There have been a few comments about not liking the traditional Japanese food — can’t imagine. the food was amazing. If you want hamburgers and chicken strips don’t go to Japan I guess — the food and service was exceptional. The room was so well equipped I barely had to unpack my bag. I will make sure to stay here again next time in Japan.

Where to begin. Our stay at Gen Hakone Gora was quite the introduction to ryokans. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and attentiveness of the staff was extraordinary — nothing was too much trouble, Our room on the top floor was beautiful and incredibly well appointed - we didn’t have to unpack anything we’d brought as everything had been thought of and supplied in the room. Traditional yukata were waiting in the room, and we were told we could wear them throughout the hotel, every detail had been considered. Our room had its own private onsen on the balcony and so it was quite something to be able to relax in it looking out over the hills of Hakone. The kaiseki dinner, served privately in the room, was a genuine highlight. Beautifully presented across multiple courses, with seasonal ingredients handled with real skill. The Japanese breakfast, also in-room, was equally impressive. I note the comments about timing made by another reviewer but realised why the timing was so crucial when we were there - multiple courses were served into our room (and no doubt all the others) so there really wasn’t a lot of room for error. The location is excellent for exploring the area — the Hakone Cable Car is virtually on the doorstep, and the hotel offers a free shuttle to the ropeway and station and will arrange other local drop-offs and pick ups. Our stay at Gen Hakone Gora was a real once in a lifetime experience
