Kyou no Yado Kagihei Hotel

I was fortunate to stay three nights in this traditional ryokan, and it was undoubtedly the most memorable moment of my trip to Japan. Upon arrival, one discovers accommodations in the purest Japanese tradition: tatami mats, futons, simple and elegant decor, a garden, a typical bathroom... Everything exudes authenticity. One does not simply stay in a hotel; one discovers a true art of living. But what makes this place exceptional is primarily the elderly couple who run it. Two people of immense kindness, always smiling, welcoming, and attentive. They take the time to chat, to show interest in their visitors, and to share with them much more than just a simple hotel service. One feels that they love to host and share a bit of their culture. Every morning, we were treated to an absolutely remarkable Japanese breakfast. Hearty, varied, and prepared with great care: tea, grilled fish, rice, vegetables, fruits, and many traditional specialties. Every meal was a true culinary discovery. Situated in private spaces side by side, we could enjoy a calm and warm moment to start the day. Throughout the stay, I felt like I was being welcomed at a friend's house rather than in a hotel establishment. This sincere attention, kindness, and simplicity made the experience unforgettable. I loved this accommodation. Located in a typical neighborhood of Kyoto, just steps away from the bustling market, it allows one to experience Japan from within, away from standardized experiences. This is exactly the kind of place that makes one want to return to a country. Thank you to these wonderful hosts for their hospitality. They contributed to making my trip to Japan a memory that I will cherish for a long time. 🙏🙏

Absolutely worth the stay! The staff/family that runs this hotel are the nicest people in Kyoto. They were extremely accommodating, prepared, and spoke fluent English. The room was comfortable, quiet, and a great first experience for traditional living. We also had breakfast, which featured a large arrangement for traditional foods and fruits. The location could not be any better at this price point and is incredible value.

This family-run Ryokan is absolutely perfect for savouring Japanese hospitality and tradition. We were pampered to the last. In addition, it is located in a strategic area (1 minute from the nishiki market and about 4 minutes from the nearest station). We will be back. Thank you so much for everything Ada M & Mirko D
