Hotel Sankt Moritz Shiga

Turned up for first meal and showed my Japanese gluten free card. They looked a little puzzled/concerned but hopped to and found the chef who duly pointed out what I could eat from the selection on had. Same for breakfast the next morning. From then on, they brought out special dishes they had made for me and had them ready when I turned up for every meal. Best GF service I've had for a long time, and all so very polite in the Japanese tradition. Vert happy Other than that, its like stepping back in time to a 1980's Swiss theme. Comfy beds, warm and all facilities you need in a great location

We had the misfortune of staying one night at this property and I have no idea how they are in business. There is nothing I can say but don’t stay here !! The rooms are dirty, tired and dingy. The restaurant food is almost inedible and the staff have no idea what they are doing. The paint is peeling off the walls and the carpet is threadbare - we would have walked out if we had another option.

We stayed for five nights at the end of a two week ski tour of Honshu Island. We arrived late afternoon and were met by a staff of two and received no help with our luggage/skis. We were told we were unable to eat in the hotel restaurant that night so had to find our own restaurant. The places recommended by the staff were either booked out or closed. Luckily we found a small take-away type place. We were told if we wanted to eat at the hotel we had to give a days notice. The hotel rooms were dated but very clean. Access to the ski field was easy and close. The shop was pretty much empty and closed most of the time we stayed. The fire in the lounge area was never lit while we stayed as it was "Too dangerous". The continental breakfast was authentic japanese. All staff were polite, and tried to help when asked. When we stayed there were never more than six or so other guests.
