Embedded into the village, this ryokan is tugged away into a quiet yet still close to restaurants, shops, and transportation. In walking distance to several local onsens where can mingle with the locals. An uphill walk of 10 minutes leads to the walkway that moves you up to the base of the ski area in another 5 minutes. The proprietors of the ryokan will do everything to make this your best stay. Rooms are comfortable but small. Japanese breakfast is offered in-house. Traditional dinner is available as well. Recommended!

As the word Ryokan implies, we stayed in a traditional Japanese inn with a spacious, clean room, with tatami mats to sleep on and an onsen for bathing. We were also provided with pyjamas (yukatas) which we could wear to breakfast and to the onsen. The traditional Japanese breakfast was something out of this world and a wonderful experience every morning. The husband and wife that owned/managed the inn were so friendly and helpful.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Nakajimaya. The staff (especially Yukiko) went out of their way to ensure we had the best stay possible, including giving us a ride from and to the Chuo Bus Terminal (where we came in on the Nozawa Onsen Liner). We loved staying in the traditional Japanese room. The breakfast and dinners were absolutely delicious and a great experience all on their own. The in-house onsen was delightful and convenient— we ended up using it more than the others in town because of the convenience and privacy (though it's definitely worth it to check out the others around town). We can't wait to come back! Pro tip: you have to reserve dinner at least 1.5 days prior, so be sure to do that if you're interested in enjoying dinner during your stay.
