Unzen Kanko Hotel

It was a wonderful hotel with a sense of tradition, and I felt very attentive and comfortable with the response of the experienced hoteller. On the other hand, there were few hoteliers and the average age seemed high. A small number of young foreign nationals are working hard, which is not a bad thing in itself, but there is a big difference in experience and skills between them and veteran Japanese, and I don’t think there is any ill will, but there were times when our intentions were not communicated. I feel the difficulties faced by the Japanese hotel industry, not just this hotel. I am grateful for the fact that people from overseas come to Japan to work, so I think it is important to find a way to carry on the tradition in this situation. No one is to blame, and you are all good people, so I sincerely hope that you will think about what to do and continue this new tradition.

It is a hotel that is well-organized enough to enjoy hotel life alone without going out one step. I slept better with the soft pillow than in any hotel. We were not open for lunch, but we were able to heat up the curry that we were selling as souvenirs and eat it in our room. Room service beer is 550 yen, which is a reasonable price!!

From the approach to the entrance, lobby, dining room, library, etc., everything is a photo spot. The room (superior twin) is classically and simply furnished with mostly wood (I was particularly impressed with the opening and closing of the wooden framed windows). The equipment and amenities are of high quality, and it seems comfortable even for long-term stays (however, the stylish hand shower in the clawfoot bathtub does leak water, which is a no-no). For dinner, there is only a French course. It was a traditional taste that deliberately left the smell of game meat and allowed you to enjoy the rich sauce. The large public bath was Western-style with stained glass, but the hot spring was colorless and odorless, so it was a bit disappointing. Overall, it seems that the number of guests is limited (there were only a dozen groups on a Saturday in late October) in order to maintain the service level despite the staff shortage, and the users were extremely comfortable. However, although I was impressed by the tradition of the classic hotel and their attitude of trying to maintain it, I honestly think that I don't need to revisit for the time being, as I was quite satisfied this time. In particular, I got the impression that there were not many young staff members, and I think that if I look at it from a new (younger) perspective, it will become an even more attractive hotel.
