Unzen Shinyu

The room was spacious and very beautiful, perhaps just renovated. Dinner was delicious in a private room with various local dishes. They also booked a night tour and the guide's explanation was very interesting. I didn't dig the hot springs in Unzen, and I could see that the place where the hot springs were gushing was constantly changing. Both of the hot springs in the public bath were good, but the outdoor baths in Kasensho had many floating leaves, no scoop nets, and quite a lot of leaves in the water, so it was not good to wrap around my legs. The breakfast set was delicious and I ate too much. Thank you for bringing dinner time earlier than planned and for the receptionist in various ways.

Onzen of this hotel is amazing, if you are focusing onzen to relax yourself. this is a right place to stay. Location is about 5mins walk from the main Street where you can find restaurants, gift shops etc(small little town) We have stayed there for two nights due to strong typhoon. Front desk management staff name KIRIKO, who spoke perfect English has tried her best to make sure we were okay during our stay, she has offered us lunch in case we cant go out and yet we have found deserts in our room later. Very thoughtful indeed! Dinners were simple and light. We have good experience in this hotel.

Our first Ryokan. We had another much better experience in Yufuin, but it was 10,000Y more expensive. The lady owner/manager was very pleasant and organised and was sure to welcome and send off every guest. The staff were very nice. The lady at reception had a translator on the phone to answer a couple of queries. The onsen was indoors and led into an outdoor pool which I suppose could be called the rotenburo. All good spaces with the traditional equipment. The room was pleasant. They only have one room with a western bed, but we came for the tatami experience which was pretty comfortable, although we had 2 levels of mattress. I tried with just one to start at Yufuin and it was not going to work! Generally the hotel was a bit tired. The bathrooms were of an age when modernization is due. The dinner and breakfast were nice, held in a large room which gets partitioned in the evening for different groups.
