Oyado Kaikatei Ryokan

Wonderful resort, very friendly, courteous and efficient service! The room is very clean, designed like a traditional Japanese home. Hence, don't expect it to be a modern gadget stuffed hotel. It gives you a feeling of getaway from the electronic world we live in. It has 2 onsen, one indoor and the other outdoor! Both spacious enough 2 adults to relax at a full stretch. We bought a half board package which came with a dinner. Like any other hotel with dinner packages, we expected it to be nothing special. We were pleasantly surprised! It was one of the BEST Japanese meals I had during this visit! I lost count of the courses as the scrumptiously and beautifully plated dishes of extremely good produce came one after the other. We also ordered a local 'Yufuin No Mori' sakae which was really good. Special mention needs to be made to the staff at the resort who are a real credit to the overall experience of the resort. Always smiling and very very helpful! Thank you so much for a lovely stay. We will surely be back.

We are traveling with a group of senior people from Thailand who are not accustom to bathing with strangers so they really enjoy the private in-room indoor/outdoor onsen and reservation-only outdoor big bath. We enjoy both dinner and breakfast. Beef Yakiniku at dinner is surprisingly good. Bedding is comfortable. The garden is well landscaped. The hospitality is excellent despite even though we do not fully understand each other. It was a very pleasant stay.

We stayed just one night at Oyado Kaikatei in June and with very few reviews we weren't sure what to expect. It was our accommodation highlight of our 2 week trip to Kyushu! A beautiful Japanese villa with internal and external private hotspring baths. The villa was huge and traditional Japanese style with the best yukatas. Food in our private dining room was outstanding and we absolutely loved our private outdoor natural bath overlooking a beautiful garden. We stayed at Sanga Ryokan in Kurokawa which is much more expensive but we would rate this one higher. The staff were also great - very genki - language barriers were easily overcome. It's not walking distance from town - we drove there and the GPS found the location no problem - you would just want to have a picture of the front entrance because they don't have an English sign. Would recommend staying for longer than a night!
